Poles... Apart On All FM 96.9
(1/2)
By Michelle Dee
|
(1/2),
(2/2).
|
|
As I predicted the Mog and Paul Heaton show Thursday nights on www.allfm.org
had a name
change from Move The Chair to The WHAT? to, Poles..Apart for this weeks edition -
1st Feb. The name change was inspired by the news that persons from Poland will
be filling the Thursday night 7pm - 9pm slot at the end of the two month run.
This knowledge fills me with dismay.
|
|
|
Come on big wigs in Radio land give Mog and Paul a permanent show, we need
this type of show that is unafraid to play music that inspires surprises
and challenges generic unoriginal programming. So to this weeks show and
Paul's Top 40 run down, (regarding the name, I pondered the idea that it
could be a pun... polls a part given the nature of tonight's show).
|
|
How does a song get to be included in the chart? As with all things there
are rules. A song may be included if heard on a pub jukebox, recommended
by a friend, buy in a record store or by hearing it on the radio.
Paul conceived this idea back in May 1980 and we are lead to believe he
updates and adds to the chart each and every month.
|
Before we launch ourselves giddily into the Top 40 let me just say Moscow Radio
they of the classically crackly I'll Never Fall In Love Again mentioned last week.
(if anyone can find a web link get in touch) In at No. 40 Waiting For My Cappucino
by Dan Reeder
www.myspace.com/danreeder
something we've all done as the glut of
trendy café bars threatens to swallow us whole.
Bring back the simple delights of the greasy spoon where you could drink the pot dry
and scoff as many thickly spread slices of cardboard bread to your hearts content.
|
|
Anyway I digress, do check out Dan's artwork on his site
www.danreeder.com
it's groovy.
Some of the records featured in tonight show were played last week too including
Joe Perdy again at No 27. Peter And The Wolf at number nine along with
Amos Lee
www.myspace.com/amosleeofficial
and Supply and Demand hot on the heels at number 8.
|
|
The brilliant new find Monkey Sons
www.myspace.com/monkeysons
appeared twice in the chart. First at number 16 with When This World Is Getting You Down
then the nana munching Ha Ha straight in at number three.
Really enjoyed Cheap Dates
www.myspace.com/cheapdates
also in twice with their highest entry Sodium Lights at No.2.
Number 1 in this happening chart rundown was a hip hop hybrid Rhymefest and Anthony Hamilton
www.myspace.com/anthonyhamilton
and a hip groove called Bout To Get Ugly.
|
|
Knowing something of Paul's musical output
and given the nature of the other songs in the chart, this inclusion seemed to
be straying from the path somewhat. But it just goes to show you can never judge a
book by its cover, and neither should you. |

Music News, Interviews - Interview with Jeff Caudill and Francis Garcia feat. I Was The Lead Singer EP (Allabout Records) Available from iTunes By Nick Quantril

|
It really shouldn't work; two former punk-pop stalwarts, Jeff Caudill and Francis Garcia,
choose to showcase their development into Americana singer-songwriters by covering songs
from each other's back catalogues.
As a way of laying the past to rest, it's certainly more inventive than most.
Former front-man of California based Gameface,
