I arrive at East Park and make my way straight to the main stage. I'm late due to having been to see Tonik and new singer/songwriter Tom Dorridge. Both were in fine fettle at Alderman Kneeshaw Park open day on Amethyst Rd. A good sound being provided by the Springboard chaps from Cottingham and a bright sunny day to listen to some tunes. The Landaus had played an hour earlier to a hundred and fifty plus crowd but I'd missed them. Gutted!

So, a taxicab ride later and I'm in East Park. I've got twenty Lamberts and a bottle of fizzy orange and I'm asking anyone and everyone whether Ernest and Shindigg have been on yet? If they had I'd have been ready to jump in the lake and sit on the bottom to contemplate life for a few hours. Thanks to the guy (think it was a Slightly Roasted band member) who reliably informed me that I hadn't missed them and was just in time to see GST Cardinals.

All around me a big crowd grows, all chanting GST, GST, GST louder and louder. I'm thankful for them - I hate it when our bands play their asses off and nobody gives a fig. Their song Set the Scene says it all - How the flying f**k did they not get Leeds this year? Of Course GST Cardinals represent Hull, a couple hundred people out there today certainly thought so.

It's a crying shame they didn't get to play the Unsigned Stage this year, not to take anything away from the bands who were chosen, but GST Cardinals, The Johnsons and maybe more from Hull should have played. On the Saturday, for a start, when there were no Hull bands playing at all!

Aside from all that, GST Cardinals proved they are a leading band today and worthy of any promoters money. Along with everyone going mental to great tunes like Class A and All that you know, there was the whisky incident and the copper trying to arrest Dave for getting off the stage to get a light for a cig. Sleep Alone might have become Locked Up for the passionate Sinny 'I don't wanna spend a night in cells,' he yells triumphantly (after persuading the officers to let them finish the set) 'I gotta go home, me mam's cooking me tea...'
