The Me Band Debut Album By Gavin Hopper

Do you remember a time before high school? Before getting drunk at college and getting off with the ugly one? A time before a mortgage and 2.4 children and a very angry bank manager whose minions would phone you everyday making those debt free adverts on television seem more and more appealing? Perhaps a time before trouble? I am talking about sepia tone memories of sitting at your Grandparents house drinking a cup of hot chocolate Grandma made, listening to Granddad's slightly unusual stories as he smokes his pipe blissfully unaware of the impending smoking ban that will soon ruin his local working mans club?

This time and the feelings I associate with this time are present in the new album from The Me Band. Their music makes me feel comforted and safe, like it is hugging me and making sure I am alright. The album has both warmth and experience about it. The tracks have fought in the war, maybe even got shot down behind enemy lines but they also picked you up when you fell in the street and put an elastoplast on your badly grazed knee.

With clear country influences and a certain Beta Band quality to them, they are by no means Lambchop nor are they Knife in the Water but don't be fooled; The Me Band are something special.

From the ram shackled simple beauty of No Body but You, to the mellow flow of Song 4 A, this band will have you swinging in a wholesome way your partner wont mind. I have two favourite tracks on this album and they are Loaf of Bread Man and My Shadow is my Friend but as I listen to the tracks the more and more often my favourite tune changes. With every listen the songs evolve and one thing I am sure of is this is an album to play on repeat. 9/10
