Sunday 5th August 07 - Piney Gir, Analogue Consumption and Wendy at The Adelphi By James McGuire

The evening saw the Piney Gir Roadshow come to The Adelphi, supported by Analogue Consumption and the Adelphi's own Wendy. First up was Wendy, with her sweet vocals and calming acoustic sounds. Even though there were a few minor technical hiccups with the backing track, the audience loved her cat related performance. Second up were the chaps from Analogue Consumption, with what could well have been their best set that I have seen to date. They complemented the other two more acoustic performances well with their funky electro beats and got the crowd rocking.

The energetic style Bobby adopts leaves me on the edge of my seat, mainly due to the fact that I fear for his safety whilst he is on stage and that the lead to his guitar does not get wrapped around his leg whilst he is dancing away and belting out what can only be described as original and well constructed lyrics. Danny's use of the synth provides atmospheric sounds giving the songs an even more exciting edge to them. The individual members complement each other like butter on crumpets and their tunes go down as well as a hot chocolate in the depths of winter.

I had not heard Piney Gir before and do not class myself as a fan of country music, so I was not sure what to expect when the Piney Gir Roadshow took to the stage. The candlelit room was befitting for the band, which are fronted by the beautiful and elegant Piney Gir. After my earlier apprehension, a couple of songs into their set, my feet were tapping, hands patting my knees and I was ready to get up and dance the night away, but due to the packed room, I had to remain seated for the remainder of their performance; darn! Even when a fuse blew, cutting out the power, it didn't stop them, as they carried on without a second of hesitation, leaving us to be treated to a candlelit singsong, with Piney braving it and leaving the stage.

The soft voice of Piney Gir was superbly supported by the band, which played exquisitely to produce an overall feel good, romantic sound. Piney was not just restricted to vocals and showed the audience an all round entertaining show by managing to sing and play a variety of novelty instruments.
