Graham Coxon - Standing On My Own Again (Parlophone) Reviewed By Steve Rudd

So, while Blur frontman Damon Albarn continues to rope in big bucks as the main man behind the uber-successful Gorillaz phenomenon, his former Blur band-mate Graham Coxon is living it large as a hugely popular solo artist. Yes, since Graham left Blur, the music that he's released has been just as good as anything ever released by the aforementioned Brit-Pop band. In fact, this latest tune from the Coxon in Standing On My Own Again is one of his finest cuts yet, being a thoroughly exhilarating anthem that's been produced by the legendary Stephen Street, a man who has ensured that this tune is as vibrant as can be.

It's an energetic, balls-out rock tune that is dominated both by Graham's distinctive voice and his electrifying prowess on guitar. When he left Blur, indie fans the nation over mourned. It was the end of an era for the band, but - deep down - we've got to be thankful that he did decide to bravely branch out in search of a voice of his own.
