After a cancellation by local band Hospital Fight Grimsby band the So and So's found themselves down at the Sesh for their Hull debut. After seeing them at the Bridging the Gap Lincoln Gig at Christopher's earlier this year I was looking forward to see them live again. They took to the sesh stage and immediately were beset with problems. First of all the lead-singers guitar strap fell off; never a good start, then there were some technical difficulties with the effects pedals.

Soon after that, the band found their stride with Lucy's Lane. This song plays out in stylish, rhythmic fashion, excitement and vibrancy can be found in the vocals from front man Richard. Mrs. Cravat comes next more melodic this time, with good guitar and drums combo. A song to stomp your feet to and I do.

Next, a tempo change for something which I have described as slacker Indie if there is such a thing. Sadly some of the finer points on this one get lost in the overall mix. Richard announces they say you are what you eat and we are c**ts shouting over the mic. Darren Rogers states so far we have had one from Oasis, one from The Cribs, and I add one for the attention of Environmental Health... I actually thought they had a refreshingly different approach than the Hull bands. Tonight's sesh crowd didn't really react well to the Grimsby band which is a shame because when our bands go out of town they like a good response. Perhaps because of this, I felt some of the initial energy was lost during the middle of the set.

I liked the track Basement Bob which featured more spaced out stuff, with heavier rock slices in the indie sound. Taking the initiative Richard proceeds to take it right to the faces of the onlookers. Stepping of stage for Unmistakable You, a lively song with quick slow drum patterns and drawn out guitars. Then to And so it Goes with deep bass opening lines, driving rhythms and strong rock n roll elements. Standing as I am so close to the speakers my ears are hurting from Richards piercing vocals.

They finish with Ode to Richard, a catchy number with sing along chorus rhyming couplets and good humour. Here is a band who are picking up gigs all over the country including some notable London gigs so look out for their return to Hull and get behind them.
