They continued on this experimental vein with Untouchable, heavy with guitar effects that dominated then took a short-lived backseat as the vocals kicked in. The harmonies on the line, Ain't that the way it usually goes come over like the Stone Roses with a blues edge. As the song continues and the guitar and vocals combine, I sense the ghost of Jim Morrison on the Ringside stage. The sweet guitar line flourish that announces the end of Untouchable is polished and well worth waiting for. Tonight the band plays a brief number that may or may not be a separate entity to the last song but its brevity catches the ear.

In my limited experience a band, especially a fairly recent one, will throw in one or two longer tracks during a half hour set. Maybe slowing the tempo, possibly playing a gentler ballad-styled, or story-based, song. Dazed Dakotas do the opposite and throw in this ballsy two minute wonder containing the warning lines, careful what you wish for/ careful what you dream at night, sage like advice if ever there was some.

They finish on a song which is dedicated to the chavs ruining the streets of Grimsby called Modern. The song opens in racy fashion, brimming full of confidence then turns confrontational screaming, So you wanna be Modern at full pelt and ultimately tells it like it is...or how we non-chavs see it at any rate. Great song but I doubt the chav scum will ever hear it, let alone appreciate its sentiment and change their wicked ways.

The name Dazed Dakotas came to front man Lee as a momentary insight of brilliance during an achy morning hangover. You can oft find him at home writing songs on an acoustic guitar, he then takes the song so the band can colour it in. During this process the band invent new colours hitherto unseen, new ideas so far untested, new heights of musicianship; unheard of from a band so near the start of their career. The Dazed Dakotas play Hull again very soon. 6 th March at the Uni on the 10 th March upstairs at Ringside with our very own double Ds Dirty Dreamers.
