The guitarist next to him stands one foot atop the monitor hair flying, the vocals from
the singer all screech and scrawl, as a barrage of drums erupts from the back.
Axes fly long dark hair goes the same way and the vocals continue in a mix of
singing and snarl reminiscent of death virtuoso's Cradle.
It'd be so much better if we had a full house of young moshers all enjoying the
heavy music, but sadly the Ringside is surprisingly empty for this type of gig.
I watch on and relish the classic rock pose as the guitarists lean back on each
other white vest against black shirt and play.

The shift to the more melodic sound reminds me of the old Hull rock scene drunken days and nights.
A two handed fret board slide catches my eye then, I spy the second guitarist, one hand
raised other hand finger tapping the flame red axe.
False Hatred is described as their most thrashy song. An engine roar, of drums and guitar
crescendos, opens out onto guitar lines powering through; reminding me of Slayer or
early Megadeth oddly enough.
The Red is replaced by a Flying V for furiously fast fingering as the song comes
to a close, amid guitar leaps stage left and a big drum finish.

Run and Hide contains more classic guitar licks, high tempo energized nu-metal based
thrash sound which I quite like.
|
|
The finale starts slow and I'm tricked into thinking here is the must have rock ballad.
Some really old style rock riffs play out, with the higher pitched guitar chords
picked out over the percussion.
Then the mood of the song changes to a heavy as you like, frenzied rock out number.
It feels like this song attempts to tie in all the different motifs that have been
played in the last half hour.
Above it All; an eye-catching mix of musicians, bringing heavy rock and nu-metal sounds colliding together.
Well worth your time and money.

Tonight's headliners hail from Huddersfield they are signed to
Mark Daghorn's Rising Records labels and their list of label mates includes
Defenestration and the mighty Mendeed. They are of course Nex.
They decorate the front and back line with fibre optic lights to some peoples chagrin then begin.
They are certainly one of the most entertaining bands I have seen this year.
The guitarist hops onto an amp; crouching squirrel, darting eyes.
The single melodic rock vocal gives way to three way repeated refrains.
Next a move to more metal styled rock with buckets of mischievous humour.
The band say we take what we do seriously but don't take ourselves seriously.

We at thisisull had originally chosen the band Tarifa to go with Ernest to play at
Christopher's but sadly they had to drop out. Luckily Cilla kept her eye on the ball
and soon had vintage beauties Kill Surf City on the bill instead.
Yours truly did somewhat have the wind taken out so to speak, so all credit to

Yesterday was a very special day. Around five o'clock on Thursday evening, I was listening to
The Beautiful South sound check.
The hall was a hive of activity with technicians climbing rope ladders to the gantries,
erecting barriers at the front of the hall, and making ready for the first TBS gig
