The band are also aware of the crowds energy and they tap into it as the set progresses with Sometimes and Token Indie Disco Anthem I'm cheating here they gave me the set list after the gig. The title of the latter might shed some light on how they view the current crop of three minute floor fillers filling the NME'S pages. Not your lover, not your friend. Hmm, I wonder. Broken Beats kicks in and that's it I'm dancing. Having been steadily supping Greenline IPA since I arrived, I am fair ready to bounce about at the front. There's plenty of room for me, my bag, the camera and my book so I remove a layer and let myself go.

The tambourine start on Eggshells shows variation and the guitar sound reminds me of an old favourite from a few years back. Holding on to a feeling, of being on vaguely familiar ground, I dance and sway to the shifting sounds.

I look around and see an attentive crowd but only a handful seem to be really feeling every nuance. Maybe they are just not quite as demonstrative as me. There's some traditional folk in the poetry of the verses that surprise then please. Her alto tone combining with the guitar sound create a platform of accessibility then you are thrust headlong into off beat drumming and screaming punk sounding drawn out choruses. Siouxse Sioux perhaps or X-ray specs but I see I am going to have to do some more research if I am to give meaningful comparisons. Viper 88s continue with Fight Song which appears on their four-track Wide Open EP.

Then finish with the dirty guitar intro of (Alive) and then the meaty vocal kicks in. I remember a wild Robert Plant style screech finish but once again I was hopping around like a mad thing to the vibrant music. Just look at all the goodies I collected that night from the other bands.

The next band have never failed to excite which is why I dubbed this trip Dirty Dreamers Get Me Excited Tour 2006. I would have liked to have fashioned a tee-shirt especially for the occasion but it wasn't to be. As the Dreamers came on stage our motley crew (thanks Matt) created a tight arc at the foot of the stage. The change in atmosphere was tangible and we all waited for them to begin.

The Dreamers band embody rock n roll completely, from Keith's deep penetrating bass, the awesome guitar solos it's all about Baz to the percussive magic coming from Chris and then of course there's Ash with a vocal capacity that never seems to wane. He can turn it up a few notches but it usually stays at around the eleven mark; yes that's right eleven.

Ashley eyes the crowd with a winsome look, stops a few hearts mid beat and introduces Overload. A Dreamers gig is electric; they embody all that is wild and raunchy about rock n roll. The atmosphere changes the minute they start playing the hard fast songs about rock n roll lifestyle Due to the close proximity of Chris to the rest of the band I was able to watch him much more clearly.

He scooped the award for best drummer tonight, I'm biased I know, but it wasn't until he started pounding the skins that I really felt the room shake. I have to laugh as they race through Leave Me Behind because last year they did exactly that after the Cavern Club gig. New song Shape Up is dedicated to the pie eaters in the other room and goes down well in the main one.
