Tonight www.LincolnBands.co.uk and www.thisisull.com came together to bring you the first, in what we hope will be more Bridging The Gap nights of aural pleasure. A number of months ago we were approached by Brian the Webmaster of the Lincolnshire based website and asked whether we would be interested in putting together a gig. The idea behind the night was to showcase Hull music to a different audience, to network and build links and then invite the Lincoln bands to play Hull. If successful we both wanted to repeat the experience with different bands and make the Bridging The Gap night something of a regular thing.

We at thisisull had originally chosen the band Tarifa to go with Ernest to play at Christopher's but sadly they had to drop out. Luckily Cilla kept her eye on the ball and soon had vintage beauties Kill Surf City on the bill instead. Yours truly did somewhat have the wind taken out so to speak, so all credit to Cilla and Brian for holding this one together. Cilla, Mo and I drove down to Lincoln on a hot humid muggy Thursday evening. As we approached the A15 the clouds burst, as fat, heavy raindrops pebble-dashed the windscreen.

My nerves were on edge then even more so when it was announced that there had been many crashes on this long stretch of road, many ending in fatalities. We got to Lincoln in one piece to find that we had somehow developed another band, so now had five on the bill.

First up we had the So and So's yet another band from Grimsby finding themselves under my watchful eyes. They seemed very happy to be playing and didn't disappoint with rowdy rock n roll and bawdy humour. The lead singer Rich has borrowed a scarf from his sister to lend that essential Indie chic look.

He has an easy going attitude plenty of spark and buckets of energy; coming off the stage during one number. They only played a handful of songs calling themselves the warm up act; and boy was it warm in Lincoln tonight. The highlight of the set entertainment wise was a number I think was called Rich, named after the singer. It bounced along with glib humour and wry observations and had me hooked from the off. The song 9 to 5ivers had that Arctic Monkey/Stone Roses appeal that could easily see them filling bigger venues soon. The So and So's have gone down well recently at shows in London, with their sprightly sound and northern cheek they could be ones to watch out for.
