Interview with Paparazzi Whore
(1/2)
By Karl Whiting
|
(1/2),
(2/2).
|
|
This is a whole new ball game to me.
I was sitting in Pave, drinking cordial having arrived slightly earlier than the band.
The atmosphere's relaxed and Joni Mitchell's playing overhead - what more could you wish for?
I was waiting to interview the band Paparazzi Whore - my first ever interview.
And how surreal, interviewing one of my friends I went to college with.
It was surreal from the start, like a David Lynch movie, the madness began.
For those who don't know Paparazzi Whore, they are a five piece and are made up of
Micci on vocals, Chris on bass, Shaun on rhythm guitar, Laney on drums and Faye on keyboards.
|
|
|
The band have taken a year to put together their sound, working non-stop from
the start, both musically and the business side of it.
Well it really does show, they are so focused, knowing what they want and where they wanna go.
The name Paparazzi Whore, everybody assumes, has some kind of sexual reference
but in reality it's a dig at modern society - those celebrities or people
who become a slave to the mass media and want fame so badly for doing what?
Absolutely jack shit.
|
|
Yet people have become offended by the name Paparazzi Whore; a name which
draws you in because it is such a fantastic one which stands out like a
fire in the darkness of a power cut.
Why is that? People like to shrug things off which are alien to them ... or it
could be ignorance.
|
The band are not about the name but their album, I'd Rather Be Infamous Than Famous
says exactly what they are about.
It's available now from HMV, iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Play.com, Tunetribe.com
and Recordstore.co.uk.
A band is like a surrogate family - people who gel and bond really well together
(although every family is dysfunctional one way or another!).
A band is not just about ability, style and attitude.
What is important is also about bonding with people you get on well with outside the band.
Musically you need good foundations; knowing the dark and light, soft and
heavy, good hooks and melodies that make a pure rush of adrenaline.
|
|
|
Every band has an image and Miccis outfits are ones you would not want your grandma to see!
They started when Chris was at Fashion College and grew from there.
Even his own jackets are amazing but can't be worn whilst playing his bass!
All band members are unique as individuals but at the same time fit the image fantastically.
Inspired by top names such as Vivienne Westwood, Garter and Richmond,
they are not picture conscious.
The image is just a frame like that which enhances a painting. Just look at Madonna;
she's still popular even though some of her material has become rather weak.
|
Sitting opposite them I feel dressed down (mind you, I don't have any idea of
fashion or image - I just wear what fits). They have the talent, the image and
the sound but what they lack is a record deal.
They are biding their time till the right label and deal comes along.
Some people only wanna be associated or know you when you're successful.
Paparazzi Whore recently played the 02 Wireless Festival.
For all of them it was an honour; an emotional experience; a moment that
will never be forgotten, setting them on a path for success and higher ambitions.
This is how hard work and dedication pay off.
Not having a label has raised their determination, showing that this band can
stand on their own feet.

Music News, Interviews - Interview with Tom from The Cherry Cobb Cartel By Michelle Dee
|
|
Why did you form a band?
Initially I think forming a band just seemed like a good idea, and I suppose it is. But a better reason would be because we wanted to make music we liked. There are bands everywhere now and I'd say about 75% misses the spot with me, so if you're not satisfied by what's currently available, then I say do it yourself!

Music Band News - Screaming Sorrow Band Biog

Screaming Sorrow (ss) is a 4 piece, acoustic, emo, pop punk, rock, ballad disaster.
The best way to describe us to people who don't really know what that means is .... a fight
between Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World with TBS and The Rocket Summer laughing at them ...
We're quite hard to categorise because of all our other bands (displacements,

Music News, Interviews - An Interview with iLiKETRAiNS By Michelle Dee
Live Photographs by David Robinson - iLiKETRAiNS at The Piper, 25th May 06

It was with anticipation and trepidation that I prepared to interview the Leeds trailblazers.
I had seen them play live at Scarborough last year and had been mightily impressed with both
their sound and stage presence. My trepidation came from their rather imposing
British Rail jackets I'd seen them wearing then. Something about
