Interview with Tom from The Cherry Cobb Cartel (1/2)
By Michelle Dee
(1/2), (2/2).

Why did you form a band?

Initially I think forming a band just seemed like a good idea, and I suppose it is. But a better reason would be because we wanted to make music we liked. There are bands everywhere now and I'd say about 75% misses the spot with me, so if you're not satisfied by what's currently available, then I say do it yourself!

How long have you been together, how do you deal with line up changes?

We've been together getting on for six months now under this current guise, and the addition of a new member has only served to strengthen the line up.
The outlook now is just to put a lot more thought into everything we do, playing with more depth and variation
Do you have a song writing partnership?

Ryan writes most of the songs, I write the odd one, but everyone chips in with ideas. The way songs progress is definitely a group effort. Once a basic idea is in place then it can be done any number of ways because it's much easier to be spontaneously creative musically then it is lyrically. It can make you seem disinterested or lazy if you put a song out there of which you could write the entire lyrical content on the back of a stamp... Either that or you're very resourceful with paper and you write really small.
Google search your name and what do you find?

Only Google image search we did recently was for goose.
Do you have any superstitions or must have items to bring luck and good fortune?

Er... not really superstitious, but Zeppelin brand cider (brewed exclusively for Bargain Booze in the UK) is always a welcome mascot to have along.

How about future recordings?

We're currently recording some songs and should be sorted out soon but with these things it's never clear... Keep checking t'internet! www.myspace.com/cherrycobbcartel

Do you get together to socialise outside of the band?
We all live in and out of each other's pockets, transient style. Never a dull moment. "Morning George", I'll say, a greeting which more often then not gets lost due to me not knowing anyone by that name. Never mind. What with all them guitars and that lying around these social gatherings invariably descend into rehearsals, and from there, anarchy. This is usually an indication that either the Zeppelin has been flowing way too liberally or that Lord Attenborough turned up late on for a bit of a jam.

Are we as Pink Floyd suggested on the Wish You Were Here album just going over the same old ground?
...I dunno about any of that. But I do know, that there are so many bands around at the moment that one day soon the music world is going to just collapse inwardly, killing thousands and causing £1.60 worth of damage.
