He is just the right side of controlled; and has become something of an unlikely maharishi figure for many. The firm beliefs, his genuine interest in people and their lives and his unique humour inspires and delights. I have seen him strike up conversations with people from every walk of life, eager to discover more of what's out there.

Onstage this boundless enthusiasm and charisma is magnified ten-fold and has the capacity to entertain huge crowds. He's the classic showman who doesn't show off.

Turismo realistically have one last crack at the big time.
Last album Too Tall for Fashion so called because of the bands collective height; not the height of a single member- as someone wrote recently; bloody foreigners coming over here and writing about our bands and getting it all wrong with half baked commentary and shoddy research! had the seminal hit song Chinese Tortures on it.
This superior song could have proved the band's Magellan to success and still could with the coming reissue. But unfortunately the band became exhausted through the constant touring and nearly imploded late last year.

Now they are back with a new string, so to speak, to their collective bow in the shape of Skank and Rachel ex-Supatones. They bring with them energetic dynamic brass sections to the overall sound. The brass injection features heavily on the new album, too much so I think. Time will tell whether the brass sound on Too Small For Passion will be embraced by all, but now is the time to find out Turismo, now is the time to shine.

There are probably many people who should be thanked or spanked for their involvement with the Humber Fest.
Thankees are Alan Raw and DJ Mak for the hosting of, Katy Noone for lending her considerable talents, all the DJs who played in between, the Raw Talent chaps for the recording of, the BBC chap for the filming of, the plethora of photographers (let's have a gander at your pictures) and for the bar for the intoxicating of, and the food stands for the feeding of, the bands for the playing of, HPSS for the managing of, the St John's Ambulance for the mending of, and most of all to the crowds for the coming of,

Spankees are the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph for announcing that Thursday was cancelled and that Friday and Saturday were going ahead as planned but no mention of Sunday at all. Here's to making next year's Humberfest huge!

Music Reviews - Saturday 12th March 05 - Soulflame at the White Room By Michelle Dee
Soulflame have strong Puddle of Mudd influences in both sound and song construction. The E.P. is more melodic and measured than the live performance. Nic's vocals are at times quite balladic. He reaches for the high notes with a fresh enthusiasm Read more...

Music Reviews - Friday 4th March 05 - The Ga*Ga*s at Asylum By Andy Dykes, Photo Gallery By Darren Rogers
Its rock-a-rama at Asylum: tonight. Three bands, one bill, all about the rock. First up, Disarm:. Their cover of New Order's Blue Monday is superb, harking back to Marilyn Manson and Dope's covers of new romantic greats. Disarm:'s own material is intricate Read more...

Music Reviews - Monday 28th February - Black Orchid, Diverse Unit, Second To Last, The Regicides at the Ringside
By Harry Slater
It's cold tonight, not as cold as it was this morning, but cold enough to complain about. The garish decoration of The Ringside makes a welcome change from the browns and greys of a city thawing out. The outside door, as per usual, scares the crap out of me as it slams shut Read more...

Music Reviews - The Black Velvets at Brighton Audio - 18th February 05 By Steve Rudd, Photo Gallery by Darren Rogers - Sweet n Sour at The Welly Club, Hull - 9th December 04
What's one to do when they are bored with Brighton's infamous Pier amusements, and has then had their fill of the plethora of fashion and food-orientated establishments that are packed into Brighton's cosmopolitan city centre? Aside from any shows that might be playing in the few theatres in the Read more...

Music Reviews - Thursday 17th February 05 - Elobo at The Adelphi By Lucy Kynman
Many of you who go out on a regular basis will know the disappointment you get when you're shakin' your thing on the dance floor and the music changes to your least favourite track. Wouldn't it be nice for every song played to be one that you love, so you could party Read more...

Music Reviews - Tuesday 25th January - Mike (The Bonnits) and The Last People on Earth at The Sesh By Daniel Laney Photos by Darren Rogers
Quite saddened by the fact that this was going to be my last trip to The Sesh in a while, I hesitantly vacated the cars warm interior, knowing full well as soon as my battered trainers hit the cold, coarse concrete, the evenings egg timer would be turned and I would be left Read more...

In, what has been a busy week, I had a date with The Asylum pencilled in. I arrived in good time, and queued with a few others, eventually we were all let in. Tonight's admission was £4 very reasonable for four acts. For those not in the know The Asylum is a large venue Read more...
