If you were there that Sunday, a mile outside of Barton on the North bank of the
Humber River halfway down the Far Ings Road, in the glorious sunshine, you will know you
were part of something very special.
If you were not then you missed out, unbelievably so.
Yesterday's nine hour Humber Fest music marathon will become the stuff of folklore.
Myths will be created around the great day; legends will be born and forever after held in deepest regard.

What a fantastic day. What a great atmosphere. What a fine collection of people.
What a great reason to support live music.
|
|
What you said about Darren Fest so called because Darren Rogers shared his birthday with the Humber Bridge.
I was there, and I thought it was brill.
The worst bit of the whole day was the kebab on the way home, oh yes and my banging head this morning; Darren Rogers
A real sense of community between everyone; Mak, The Sesh.
Super Smashing Great; Lee, 59 Violets
|
|
Everyone looks good with a tan. Loved Fonda 500, they were superb, and 59 Violets and the
Dirty Dreamers rocked as always. The sound quality throughout from HPSS was excellent.
The DJ sets seemed a little bit out of place as they were at odds with the sound of most of the bands.
|
Thought the line up was pretty good (albeit perhaps a little same-ey).
Found myself wishing for Mr. Beasley or Superscape to break up the riff-based guitar bands
(Fonda did so remarkably well!).
Very surprised there was not more talent from the South Bank on display; Mike Circus Envy
It's like Paradise; Nat, The Johnny Go Go Gos
Special mention to Dean's friend who came all the way from Stoke.
|
|
No-one was having my crowd surf... Ian from Brough.
Loved it; Digsy, 59 Violets
Awesome; Bill, 59 Violets
Fonda 500 easily the coolest band of the day; Julia
I felt like I was at Leeds but then I saw the bridge... Holly

Music Reviews - Saturday 25th February 06 - Dirty Dreamers, Viper 88s, They Died Too Young, When Saturn Returns and Cat - Islington Lark In The Park By Michelle Dee
|
|
A small crowd gathered outside Debenhams, the usual meeting point for these band
jaunts, on a chill Saturday morning.
Some were carrying an array of provisions for the long journey to the capital.
Our group was made up of Danny, Matt, and John Paul from The Johnsons, Me, Jo and
Rachel, Uncle Dave and Paul from the Hullucinations team, Begbie, Ash Dreamer, Darren and David.

Music Reviews - Monday 10th July 06 - The Briggs at The Ringside, Hull By Jason and Jordan Carroll Photographs by Mo
|
|
My son and I had just drove up from Stockport where on Sunday night we saw The Briggs,
and yes we are big fans.
On Monday night there were only about 60 people there, which is a shame for a great band from the USA.
They came on and it was 100 miles per hour from start to finish with great songs like
One Shot Down, Waiting in the shadows, Dungeon Walls

Music Reviews - 6th July Stripped 1st Birthday at the Wellington Inn By Michelle Dee Photographs By Mo
|
|
Stripped acoustic night is one year old and I have finally managed
to get down to one of the increasingly popular nights of live music.
I order a pint of the Stripped birthday ale produced specially
for the occasion and slip into a seat near the front.
The music takes place in an area to the left of the main bar in a fairly small
room,

Music Reviews - Tuesday 13th June 06 - Bon Jovi at KC Stadium By Steve Rudd Photographs by Brigitte Freeman
|
|
Fans of rock music in Hull haven't really had much cause to complain over the past couple of
years, given the fact that the likes of Bryan Adams and REM have both played at the KC Stadium.
I could hardly believe it when Bon Jovi were announced to play as the final date of the band's
European leg of their world-wide Have A Nice Day tour, and thus I duly

Music Reviews - Sunday 25th June 06 - Wireless Festival with The Who, The Eels and Turismo at Harewood House Leeds By Moggy SideWinder (Good friend of Pete Townshend)
|
|
After careful, strategic, military organisation (something that has always come
naturally to Hull bands) Turismo and their entourage were ready for lift off
which would launch them bang in the middle of Harewood House in Leeds for the
Wireless festival.
Sadly, much to the distaste of your humble narrator, the organisation committee
had exempted me

Music Reviews - 27th June Shindigg Le Shed Franks and Khi at Piper Club By Michelle Dee with photo gallery

Tonight was a break from the norm, Piper on a Tuesday instead of the Sesh?
My step-dad once said enough is as good as a feast and a change is as good as a rest.
He also had things to say about fruit machines, one-legged men in arse kicking
competitions and matchboxes, but they aren't particularly relevant here.
So there we were,

Music Reviews - Friday 2nd June 06 - Outspoken Silence Jack Knife and Screaming Sorrow at The Ringside By Michelle Dee Photographs By Mo
|
|
In the last month I have spoken about trying to publicise different genres on
thisisull.com so to this end I accepted the invitation from Outspoken Silence to the
half term gig at The Ringside on Beverley Rd.
First off I am not versed in the intricacies of the Emo genre, nor do I have any real
knowledge about the subculture built around the Emo bands.
But I can simply

Tonight was the night that Leeds came to Hull problem was not many turned up for the welcoming party.
Sure enough Piper Club on Newland Avenue was peopled with a number of discerning music fans ready
to witness the fine selection of bands chosen by the Silver Star/Raw Talent partnership.
It also played host to a bunch of students who sounded like they were

Music Reviews - Thursday 1st June 06 - The Johnsons, Unless, The Everydays and special guests from Japan The Warm at The Adelphi By Michelle Dee Photographs By Mo

Thursday night saw four different live music acts playing the De Grey Street venue.
The night was organised by Matt from The Johnsons and new management team
Silver Star Media fronted by Gareth Jones.
Their night was once again up against some fairly stiff competition in the
form of The Paddingtons who were playing Staks Café Bar fifty

Music Reviews - Thursday 25th May 06 - The Beautiful South at The City Hall with support from Aberfeldy By Michelle Dee Photographs by Matt Rudd
|
|
Yesterday was a very special day. Around five o'clock on Thursday evening, I was listening to
The Beautiful South sound check.
The hall was a hive of activity with technicians climbing rope ladders to the gantries,
erecting barriers at the front of the hall, and making ready for the first TBS gig
at the city centre venue for over 16 years.
I listened to the band running
