The LVRs - Death Has Become Her (Undergroove) By Steve Rudd Release date: March 13th 2006

This dazzling spoken-word album is a side project for two of the members of LA rockers My Ruin, with the singer in Tairrie B doing the talking and musician Mick Murphy providing the background noise, mainly in the form of atmospheric soundscapes that are genuinely dark and deadly. Listeners of a nervous disposition might want to give this a miss, especially should you not warm to menacing tales that revolve around such horrors as dismembered girls for starters (check out the opening track Deep In A Mood).

Tairrie also rants something chronic about the money-obsessed workings of the music industry (The music business is more about the business than the music she says... and yes, she does of course have a point). Her monologues have the power to potentially brainwash, and the content that plagues some of the tracks will be the stuff of some people's worst nightmares.

The letters LVRS of the 'band' name actually refer to the hot topics on Tairrie's mind, them being Love, Violence, Religion and Sex. Cement Garden, for example, hears Tairrie admit that Violence haunts my innermost thoughts, before the faster-paced and hard rock riff-based Truth Of The City rears its exhilarating head, and which can actually be referred to as a tune given its strong melody-anchored musicality. A similarly cool riff backs up Violently Sexy, in which Tairrie wonders, Will you respect me in the morning? In the meantime I'm horny.

The majority of the tracks on this stunning release have been available before on the CD chapters The Murder of Miss Hollywood and The Secret Life of Lola Burns, but such CDs were only available through the My Ruin website and were never commercially released to the masses. Surely Death Has Become Her will go down a storm with My Ruin fans. Just because Tairrie is talking rather than singing doesn't in any way diminish the power of her entrancing voice.

When she opens her mouth, it's impossible not to listen, and some of the things that she comes out with can be regarded as sheer poetry, with the murderously moody The First Time and The Romance Is Dead ('I don't trust you but I enjoy the way you lie') being other stand-out cuts from a twenty-three-track album that runs for exactly an hour. Such an hour, whether you like it or not, might just be the darkest hour of your pretty little life, but remember - what doesn't kill you only serves to make you stronger.
