Ellenby - All You Need To Know (Level Sound) By Steve Rudd Release Date: 10th April 2006

And all you need to know is that this album is a sheer pleasure to listen to, as this duo delivers stunning song after song. There are ten tracks in all that all mix and mash together beguiling Folk, Pop and Rock elements to intoxicating effect, with Liz Young the singer of the duo, leaving multi-instrumentalist Ben Goddard to create the wondrous and consistently melodic music.

From the high-flying vocals and catchy melody-lines that underpin opening tune Circling, through the rock guitar-gilded Blind The Sun and the chorus-dominated Fly By anthem, to the atmospheric moodiness of Turning In A Corner, it's immediately obvious to all ears that Ben sounds to be able to turn his hands to any instrument whatsoever and wean a great tune out of it, while Liz clearly has a set of Celine Dion-sized lungs to sing the way that she does.

There's even something of a Goth-Rock edge to some of the songs, with the soaring grandeur that frames them bearing much in common with the music of Prog-Rock band Mostly Autumn. The Dare is another stand-out track that sublimely cross-pollinates soft acoustic guitar strumming with a mouth organ-assisted melody, underpinned to the hilt by a touching melancholic streak.

Come the album-closing title track this duo have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're serious about their music, just as they are with pleasing their listeners. All You Need To Know is their debut album, and hopefully the first of many more to come.
