The No Nothings a new three piece caught my ear.
Their contribution Pleasure Slide is like a deconstruction of the blues/rock song.
It has a jazz styled back beat bass line with abrasive guitar and bass.
The vocal is suitably DIY and in contrast to the sliding guitars flourishes toward the end.
There's a lot going on in this one as each part is lifted from the whole and put through its paces.
The close proximity of both the surf ballad Gina
Demo Review - The Johnsons By Chu Nin and the words of
caution on Shape Up is representative of the close ties and mutual respect between the two bands.

The Johnsons very first gig was of course opening for the Dirty Dreamers at the Sesh
in front of five hundred people.
The two songs show how the bands have grown and developed since that night.
Both have totally cool guitar riffs, gifted front men and a depth of talent within the band.

Fifty-Nine Violets give us Silver Sea taken from their Prime Numbers album.
According to Alfie from Chinese Laundry, it is the best track on the CD. Who am I to disagree with that?
Lead singer Digsy towers over the familiar crowd on the Darren Rogers designed front
cover of Sesh 3 justifiably so. He has been responsible for booking acts for the
Tuesday nights for the last year.
He and Lee have supplied the p.a system and knowing them have probably been offering their
experience and expertise to some of the newer bands during sound checks.

All That You Know by GST Cardinals is a power punk song that is just as good as any of
the signed acts on the gig circuit right now.
The song has a catchy chorus, straight delivery and is another sure fire hit out of Hull.
The much-loved Turismo follows lending Good Enough To Eat from Too Tall for Fashion.
I have walked down Princes Ave playing air guitar and singing this song it's that good;
that catchy and has a strong feel good factor about it.
Mid-chorus, who should come bounding across the road, but Paul Baggott!
The very man, whose words I had just been singing, to the bemused shoppers passing Jacksons.
|
|
He was clutching a sausage and tomato sandwich, (a particular favourite of his) from
the nearby deli and announced he was searching for drummer Rich Turismo.
We chatted briefly then parted; half hour later, I bumped into him again this time going the opposite direction.
He was still searching for his lost drummer.

In case you hadn't worked out, to keep track of all the different band members, you simply
add the name of the band to their first name.
For example Gaz Allbones becomes Gaz Landau, as does Danny, Loz and Stef.
Coincidentally The Landaus and Ladykiller comes next, another perfectly formed slice of
funk rock n roll from one of the most hardworking bands I've ever known.
|
It's just a shame that they didn't choose one of the recent ten or so tracks the band has penned since Xmas.
Can you imagine if they'd put Waste of Time on here? They'd be a riot every time you got to track eleven.
As it is Ladykiller displays the tight rhythms and blues Landaus style rock and their passion
for over laid lyrical bursts and precision percussion.

Armed with band members from as far-flung places as Cuba, Greece, Spain and North America, this fresh quartet is making some exceptionally exciting sounds courtesy of this debut single.

Album Review - In the Head of a Dreamer by Mary (Copenhagen) By Sean
|
|
Picture yourself lying in a field of long grass, it's 1969. You've kicked off your battered boots and your large flowery shirt lies open, as the sun beats down on you from a cloudless sky. You've just been to Woodstock festival, you're a little bit stoned, and lethargy has kicked in. you're ears are ringing a bit, and you're clutching a guitar that you're too exhausted to play.

melancholic vocals from frontman Felix.

Album/EP Reviews - The Vibrants (4-track EP) Release Date: March 14th 2006 Reviewed By Steve Rudd

Quite why this band remains unsigned is one heck of a mystery.
Truth is, this London-lounging quintet is more than living up to its
name with the blazing-hot brand of garage-trashing rock 'n' roll that
is being produced by The Vibrants.
This eponymous EP was recorded at Pete Townsend's Oceanic Studios no less,

This single from the somewhat mysterious ABO entity is deliciously dark and

striking intensity in the face of such compelling darkness.
