Breaks Co-op - The Sound Inside (Parlophone)
By Steve Rudd

This trio of musicians is a thoroughly exciting Anglo-New Zealand collective, and comprises one very famous DJ indeed - Mr. Zane Lowe.

Back in 1997, Zane and pal Hamish Clark released Roofers, which showcased their sample-aided approach to making music. Now they are working with the vocalist from The Away Team, Andy Lovegrove and The Sound Inside is the result of their latest musical dabblings that encompass a glorious multitude of influences and eclectic styles - from folk and rock through to Electronica; from Marvin Gaye-esque soulfulness, through Sebadoh-esque heights to Streets-styled cool.
The title tune of this 13-track album in itself is an extraordinary cut, before the beat-led Wonder bares its unique melodies, and the haunting Last Night chills the soul.

A Place For You, meanwhile, oozes acoustic sweetness, gracefully preceding Too Easily, which is a stylish number that borders on being Cabaret Jazz in chilled-out spirit.

So, if you've always wanted to know what Zane Lowe gets up to in his spare time with his friends, this album seems like one hell of a place to start, because you can't fail to be surprised by The Sound Inside. Frankly, it's astonishing.

Album Reviews - There are Angels by Rivers By Michelle Dee
Just seen Rivers (formerly The Rivers) opening this Tuesdays the Sesh at Linnet and Lark in Hull. Album Review - In the Head of a Dreamer by Mary (Copenhagen) By Sean
Picture yourself lying in a field of long grass, it's 1969. You've kicked off your battered boots and your large flowery shirt lies open, as the sun beats down on you from a cloudless sky.
