An ex-Hull lad himself, now finding out and writing about what the south side of the water has to offer in the way of original music. They played tracks of their new demo including the destructive Krakatoa and others. Tonight their set was beset with problems which broke up the show somewhat, but did leave Adam to discuss the absurdity of Bradford dwelling creatures spider birds. What you've not heard of them? No, neither have I, but perhaps when Unless return to Hull to play the Piper club in July he will expand further on these esoteric wonders of nature. Then again perhaps not.

Marc is clearly the star of the show and he escapes the confines of the stage at any and every opportunity. During one number he briefly sits down at our table checks on our well-being and then flies across to the other side of the room. Towards the end of the show he kneels down back to the audience and proceeds to play his guitar behind his head, striking without being showy. Then without warning while the rest of the band are playing the finale he leaps of stage again and starts playing with his teeth just like Jimi Hendrix did years before.

Now I'm not saying he plays anything like Jimi, but he has got heaps of energy and showmanship to make up for any deficit in technique. At times the vocals could be described as discordant but this all adds to the chaotic charm. If someone came along and polished them up, gave them vocal lessons and moulded them, then they just wouldn't be Unless. Gloriously shambolic, refreshing to watch, and a great set of lads to lark with.

Finally after a night of mishaps and mayhem local favourites The Johnsons took their hard earned headline slot. They ripped through tracks of the latest demo including She's so Easy and Carnivore then into the re-working of Herbert. The drumbeats were tight from the impressive Dan Laney. The guitar licks slick from John Paul and Danny, the vocals riotous and rock n roll as ever from Matt. The Johnsons have been turning heads for well over a year now and as mentioned earlier have enlisted the help of Silver Star to help them further their musical career.
