The bar staff, are open and friendly and there are no security staff to intimidate you, or spoil your night. Contrary to the rumours there have only been a few incidents of any kind of trouble at the metal venue since it opened and this bad reputation has been blown out of all proportion. In fact when the White Room opened for thirty-six hours over the New Year there was only one, and it was only a case of over indulgence. You see far worse than that falling in and out of city centre so called main-stream venues every single weekend. As usual the myths surrounding metal music and their fans have coloured the reality somewhat.

Both times I have visited the White Room I have felt relaxed and at ease with the leather clad clientele. Some of the outfits that the Goths and metal fans wear are awe-inspiring. The immaculate condition of the leather the shiny buckles and belts, the PVC skirts revealing well-defined shapely legs, the contrasting touches of lace around cuffs and corsets that define an alluring sense of empowered femininity. Then there is the make up, Oh such painstakingly presented porcelain faces with ribbons of blood red/deep purple lips and dark Kohl eyes. For one who struggles somewhat with eye make up their artistic flourishes are something to envy and a platform for which to strive for.

They put the pull-my-jeans-on-and-go brigade to considerable shame. Where else do you find a place where the men care just as much about their appearance as the women? In the slovenly society in which we live, that kind of attention to detail has go to be applauded not frowned upon.

The White Room continues to go from strength to strength and is featured in Kerrang magazine on a regular basis. It is attracting many different bands of all genres, both local and out of town, to play under its atmospheric lights. The band that headlined with Soulflame were Talamasca and they rocked the whole room. They played mostly original material and some well-known covers. They didn't have to do the repeats of those covers though, surely there are enough rock and metal anthems that they could have reworked to the crowd's satisfaction.

The lead singer is a huge tattooed meathead with considerable guitar skills the riffs flew from his fingers like snakes tongues. Whilst the bassist had the better voice he lacked the energy of the front man. He tirelessly roared at the crowd to rouse them from some metal fantasy they kept slipping into. Tonight was Spiders night, which is the usual venue of choice after the White Room. Talamasca did two encores and there was still a crowd of people inside the venue at gone eleven, this alone is testament to their pulling power. www.soulflameband.com
