Morrissey and The Dead 60's on Monday 6th September at Bridlington Spa By Steve Rudd. Photos By Darren Rogers
|
|
What can I say, other than what an amazing night!
Support band The Dead 60's, who took on the mighty stage at
8pm sharp for their half-hour set, were so brilliant that I'd almost forgotten
that Morrissey was still to come after them. The Dead 60's
are a young quintet impeccably

Blind Frog Ernie, Le Shed, Shindigg, Killer of Saints, Displacements at the Piper Club Tuesday 7th September 2004 By Andy Dykes
|
|
I walk through the door of The Piper tonight, straight into a wall of sound
created by three guys who look and sound like a very early Blink 182.
This band is Displacements.
It's hard to figure out exactly what's going on until they introduce a little subtlety.
And then it all starts to sound pretty good.
Vocally, neither singer

Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 19th August - 5678's, 59 Violets and The Morphines By Andy Dykes
|
|
I've heard tonight's openers The Morphines described as something like Ian Curtis singing
with The Clash.
If my musical arithmetic is correct, then The Morphines should sound something like Sham 69.
And they do. A bit.
While the garage rock revival grips the world like nuclear war, The Morphines hark back to an era

Music Reviews - The Babyshambles - Saturday 14th August at YoYo Indie Night At The Welly Club, Hull By Andy Coe
|
|
All week the only talking point in the city was - Is Pete gonna turn up? And turn up he did!
Last night (Saturday 14th August) at The Yo-Yo indie night in Hull at The Welly Club a sell
out crowd witnessed The greatest Rock n Roll show the city has ever seen.
Fans were camped

Music Reviews - The Noise Hits Hull - 106FM By Sarah Carter
|
|
Whilst stuck at traffic lights in Witham ( Hull ) I heard a wonderful sound. No, not Dale Winton
announcing my lottery numbers but something almost as good. Rock music in Hull !!!.
I pinched myself and it hurt. I then saw a poster on the old pub on

The Welly Club (about a mile away from the train station and down Beverley Road,

Tonight's almost instantaneously SOLD-OUT gig was

Music Reviews - HarriWatts Band Comin' Out Party At The Lamp Wednesday 4th August By Jane Foster
|
|
This is the first time I've really seen the Harri Watts band properly.
I did in theory see them at the Lamp once before, at the Cracktown Christmas Carol last year.
But that was after several flagons of fine ale and much good cheer, with a bit of
rubber chicken abuse thrown in.
A perfect night in my book,

Music Reviews - Sons of the Desert at the Nagshead Friday 30th July By Jane Foster
|
|
Sons of the Desert are a 9-piece soul covers band who have been dishing
out their fine meaty goods to the people of 'ull for roundabout a decade..give or take
a few changes in their line-up over the years.
Last time I saw them was last Christmas at the selfsame pub, and I thought they were
rather grand then, so I

Jaz Bar 10th August 2004 The Ludes, The Mardous, 59 Violets, The Applewhites By Andy Dykes
|
|
The classy setting of the Old Town's Jaz Bar plays unlikely host to a range of bands tonight. The wooden floors and high concrete ceilings make Jaz Bar an unusual choice for this evening's entertainment. Combined with an absence of carpets, cushions on chairs and curtains on windows and I get the feeling that there are going to be a
