The fourth band to take to the stage was comedy four piece B.B. Bruce.
A mixture of workers from vegetarian restaurant Hitchcock's in Hull's old town and staff
from behind the bar in The Adelphi, they play through their arty tongue in
cheek rock blues that sounds like a drowning Velvet Underground or The Stooges.
The group obviously set out to scare and distress the punk kids and other innocent bystanders.
|
|
The disappointing thing though was they had obviously believed and relied upon the
fact that the audience wouldn't get what they were doing and thus created a certain
discomfort and shock, however myself and others (friends and members of the audience)
did get it and after the second song it just wasn't funny anymore.
The impression of the bands set was for comedy purposes, however it was purely for
the bands own personal enjoyment, leaving the audience as on-lookers of people trying to be funny.

|
Political, original, enjoyable and endearing; Silence in the Streets where up next.
This group again was indeed a refreshing dose of diversity in the local music scene and they
fully embrace the local crowds love for music, whatever style it may be.
With a political message, the brilliant front man managed to persuade the predominantly punk
and rock audience to get lost in their special blend of electro drum and bass sound.
|
|
If you were to put Rage Against the Machine with Asian Dub Foundation and blend them together,
then Silence in the Streets would be your beauty of a finished product.
|
|
The whole group managed to take you back to the eighties rave era and everywhere
you looked from side to side people were dancing, smiling and getting carried away with
the groups infectious grooves.
An obvious definite crowd pleaser and even to the untrained eye something special,
Silence in the Streets have to be watched to fully appreciate their performance.
Straight up Brilliance
|
|
|
Finally a long awaited return from The Freaks Union kicked off.
The crowd love the band like family and everyone rioted in the pit.
Their unique wall of noise sound and gruff vocal lifted by the elegant harmonies
floated above the crowd surfers and through the audiences bodies.
It was the first time in years since I've been in the pit but The Freaks invited me in
reassuring me along the way that it would be a great time.
|
A fusion of old classics and yet to come out treats helped relieve the trapped aggression.
A perfect therapy for anyone of all ages. Brilliant.
A great evening over all made the freezing chill in my hands disappear and place a
warm feeling in my heart as the love for Hull's music grows even more.

A long awaited Hull bands compilation CD can only be reviewed track by track.
After listening to this really well compiled album by The Sesh's very own Mark Page,
it was apparent that it had to be stripped down song by song to highlight a little

Album Reviews -
Green day-Shenanigans (released 2002) By Jason Karlson
|
|
This album is far better then it has any right to be.
Considering what it is, which is, a filler album to go alongside there greatest hits disk International Superhits.
A stop gap album to keep them in the public eye while they scurry off and make

Album Reviews -
Confuzion - Extinguished (album sampler/ Criteria Records) By Steve Rudd
|
|
Energetically benefiting from the refreshing and super-smooth vocal talents of Ashley Stone, this Reading-based band produces seriously poppy music of a hugely anthemic nature.
These three songs provide the first evidence of

Album Reviews - Sidewinder CD By Nick Quantrill

With their high quality and energetic live shows, Sidewinder are regarded as one of the finer Hull bands.
Looking as comfortable playing to a packed house at the Kingston Communications Stadium as they do

Single Reviews The Concretes - Seems Fine (single/ EMI) By Steve Rudd

If you want to feel refreshed and plain good about life, then it's imperative that
Stockholm outfit The Concretes are checked out ASAP.
Laying claim to almost as many band members as The Polyphonic Spree, there are eight of them,
coolly fronted by sultry vocalist Victoria Bergsman.

Album Reviews - Silver Sun - Disappear Here (Invisible Hands Records) By Nick Quantrill
|
|
Back in the days of Brit Pop, when guitar bands desperately aped Oasis, one band was bucking
this trend by trying to assert some individuality and kick back against the corporate sea of mediocrity.
Despite several chart-hits and an ever growing live following, Silver Sun were
amongst the

Album Reviews - Turismo - Too Tall For Fashion By Jason Karlson
|
|
There are some amazing bands that simply cannot be contained on a shiny silver disk.
Fonda 500's CD releases are always breathtakingly energetic and creative but they
still can't capture the sheer vigour and unchecked energy of their live appearances.
Turismo are another band who

Album Reviews Richard Stevenson - Promises Promises By Daniel Laney

I must admit getting motivated in the morning is one of the hardest things I have to achieve.

bills await you at the front porch and you know full well that the postman has taken
great pleasure wedging as much
