Everyone's getting involved now, and people like Cilla and Mo from thisisUll.com and Katie Noone from Raw Talent at the BBC have been supporting us from the start.

"We all play these band's music and we promote them however we can. There are no favourites - I take submissions and demos from anyone."
"It really is exploding in Hull right now. And all this that's happening today is just the tip of the iceberg."

So what's gonna happen next?
"I really want to focus on the Sesh CD next. It's an idea that Cilla and I had. We want to produce a CD featuring the best bands in Hull right now and send them out to anyone who's anyone.

We want to send a copy to every A&R man in London and let them know what's happening here in Hull. I mean A&R men must get twenty to thirty demos a day, and they don't even look at them, so we want to produce something special. "
"We've produced a CD for today, but it's just a demo, a taster. It's almost like a follow on from the CD that we produced at Christmas, just something to raise a bit more funds for today. There are twenty-five bands on this CD, and I have a list here of another twenty-odd bands, so the proper one will have to be a double CD.

It'll be expensive, so we're going to need sponsorship, so that's the next thing on the list. I mean, you can produce five hundred CDs for £350 or you can produce five thousand for £1,200, so you may as well go for it. We just want to give something back to the bands."

Today was also a benefit gig as well. Tell me all about it...
"Unbeknown to a lot of people, I also coach football as well - I've got a FA qualification. I've been working with an under eleven's team called the Beverley Beavers.

They're playing mini-soccer now, but we're going to be playing eleven-a-side soon. We don't have any funding or anything, and up until now we've been using hand me down kits and equipment.
We're really short of money, and I was thinking about doing a pub quiz or something to get the money for a new kit. I was talking to Baggot and Baz about it, and Baggot suggested that we organise a gig. We just need five hundred quid and that would get us a full kit - fifteen players and two goalies, and we've raised three hundred quid on the door already.
We're also selling this CD and putting the profits towards the kit as well. The day's events are going to carry on over at The Linnet after this. It's free entry and they'll just be the CDs for sale and a bucket going around."

It's an amazing event, and I think it's a sign of bigger and better things to come.

"I've been astounded by the support from the bands and the people that come to listen to them. I'm telling you, the next thing we'll be doing is a gig to publicise the CD and try and get sponsorship for it."
I chat to Mark for ages. It's obvious that this is guy that is a hundred per cent behind everything that's happening in Hull's music scene right now, and it's because he has a real passion for it. It's rare to see that in people nowadays. He also gives me a copy of the demo CD, so expect to hear more about that from me shortly (I have neither the time nor the mental capacity to do it justice here).

Music Reviews - The Zutons and Little Flames at Asylum - Monday 18th October By Andy Dykes, Photos by Darren Rogers
The sky is black and clear tonight. This means that for the first time in a while, the stars are being given the chance to shine on Hull. This also means that it's pretty bitter outside. Inside Asylum tonight, it doesn't seem to be any warmer. Maybe that's why so many people are huddled together so closely? Or maybe Read more...

Music Reviews - The 22-20s, Cathy Davey and Willy Mason - Thursday 14th October - Sweet n Sour at The Welly By Andy Dykes, Photos by Darren Rogers
Outside The Welly Club tonight, people huddle together or dance absent-mindedly on the spot. It's dark and it's cold. But there's good reason to be braving the elements tonight. The buzz surrounding The 22-20s is increasing so steadily, it's becoming more like a roar. And the interest isn't lost on the good people of Hull who flock Read more...
