Tuesday 11th January - Hull Aid Tsunami Benefit Gig at The Sesh Continued
By Lee Atkinson

|
The Blue Slide Circle play a gritty northern take on the blues, armed with sideburns, large
collared shirts and attitude.
The singer is tall and dominates the stage area, which people are now all around.
The Sesh is suddenly dowsed in the sort of music that you would expect to hear in a Soho brothel
circa 1969- seedy, bluesy and a tad sexual.
|
|
|
I suspect that I am witnessing a band with a great
musical passion, largely due to the fact that the guitarist was pumping out filthy licks,
broadcasting the sort of broad smile that you afford when you have sown your wild oats the night before.
|
|
I recognise a track from a previous Sesh CD, which is done more justice live, but towards the
end of the set, my ears are becoming a bit uncomfortable. Believe me, I was very impressed
with the performance but I apart from the one that I had heard before, no songs really stayed with me.
I will definitely be making an effort to get to see this highly enjoyable outfit in future.
I suggest that you do the same.
Finally, its time for the straight down the middle no nonsense rock of The Dirty Dreamers who in
the form of Three Lines, knock out one hell of an opening song which commences with a very
recognisable guitar riff.
|
Meaty Les Paul licks, down and durrty bass, pounding drums and a vocal tone which improves
with every gig have secured the Dreamers a following of leather coated cats aplenty.
What The Dirty Dreamers lack in musical originality, they make up in musical energy and song
writing, grabbing the audience by the hand and leading them through a high octane set.
The last time that I saw this band, they were playing My Generation as a final song
whereas this evening, front man Ash could revel in the fact the audience are singing along
to their original labouring as he wryly suggests Think you might know the words to this one
before breaking into crowd pleaser Dirty Dreamer.
|
|
|
Unfortunately, I never made it to the second part of Hull Aid though, yet again, The Sesh at
The Linnet has produced the sort of midweek spectacle that this important cause deserves.
A big well done to the ever-conscientious thisisUll.com for selflessly organising
such an event, and to DJ Mark who made it all happen in such good spirit, it was remarkable
to have been a part of it.

You know it's been a good night when your face hurts from smiling and ears are ringing from
the evening's entertainment. The performance given last night from all three bands made the
evening highly entertaining.
It was also the first time that I had managed

Music Reviews - 10,000 Things at Jaz Bar - 26th October 04 By Caroline Murphy
|
|
So what do the music magazines know about the sensitive side of a group of sexed up 20-some-Things!
Their stage show gives anything but that impression, but close-up and personal in the smaller
venues of Hull Jaz Bar and Shrewsbury Buttermarket, I can tell a different story.

The Morphines and The 89 80s at The Sesh, Linnet and Lark - 30th November 04 By Andy Dykes, Photos by Darren Rogers
|
|
Once again tonight, Princes Ave's Linnet and Lark plays host to a evening of live bands.
With a stage littered with instruments and a bar crowded with rock n roll types, it looks
suitably like the home of what is fast becoming one of the most widely respected and
indeed played evenings in Hull.
Tonight's headliners

We used to pose for the Grattan's catalogue, and sometimes Kay's if money was really tight,
declares Silver Fox as they strike another of their notorious and hilarious catalogue poses.
Tonight we're treated to the Space Hopper and Mr Frosty's Slush making machine.
Yes, its time

Music Reviews - Blind Frog Ernie, Blue Sand the Applewhites and Displacements at Piper November23rd By Michelle Dee Photos by Darren Rogers

The Piper club on Newland Avenue has, according to many people, always had something of a volatile reputation.
On more than one occasion I have heard reports from people that you always get fights and
fracas at the venue.
Indeed the last time I went to the Piper there was a very

Music Reviews - Josh Rouse and Tim Keegan at Pocklington Arts Centre - November 22nd 2004 By Nick Quantrill

|
Pocklington Arts Centre is a beautifully intimate all seated venue.
It's the perfect venue for tonight's gig. With high sound quality and acoustics, it's no
wonder so many acts speak well of this little known venue. Tonight saw one of America's finest
singer-songwriters, Josh Rouse, take to its stage
