Amsterdam - So it's not all young kids making it in today's music industry; the singer must be over thirty.

A huge sound radiates from this five-piece band with a strong simple effective bass line in the opening number. Some technical issues seem to befall the second guitarist but are quickly overcome.

The three vocals harmonising on the opening choruses really work well. The crowd reacts with roars of appreciation for this soft rock guitar based sound.
Showmanship abounds as the group command the stage and the crowd's attention. During a flowing keyboard section the lead guitarist plays blind above his head as the second guitarist jumps on to the drum visor. Then he skilfully throws the instrument to an engineer off stage who throws a different instrument back to him.

A song is dedicated to Joe Strummer of the Clash after the Amsterdam front man met him at their last ever gig in Liverpool. The song is filled with serious passion and with eyes ablaze with emotion the harmonies soar. The band produces a well-oiled stage show that pushes all the right buttons. From somewhere a ball flies on to the stage and the bassist volleys it backwards mid note.
I surmise that the song Does this train stop in Merseyside with its sublime middle section poses questions about the human condition. The train is maybe a metaphor for pain the pain that travels right around this beleaguered country.

The front man hangs of the shoulder of his band mate guitar swinging wildly from his hip shouting at the top of his voice you're a phoney.
I notice that the drummer looks very much like a character from Gerry Anderson's sci-fi series UFO. Racy keyboards, drum crashes and guitar thrusts all serve to get the blood pumping, as do the catchy choruses during a great reworking of A Town Called Malice. All this and the light show adding to the impressive crescendo finish, worked the crowd up into even more frenzy.
It is getting cold. My feet ache, I have written line upon line of scribbled notes. The bass player of Amsterdam reminds me of a guy who worked in a chip shop in Beverley. I realise with this strange recollection that I am hungry and haven't eaten for a good few hours.

One by one, group by group, all the people who helped make the Beached Festival 2005 first a reality then a success were brought out to receive the acknowledgement and recognition of their efforts. Resulting in warm heartfelt applause from thousands of hands rising in the night sky.
Everyone from the security staff the caterers the fundraisers the bands the stallholders the promoters Scarborough Council the local press and of course all those people who came out to support the largest free festival on the East coast.
