I too retreated to the safety of the sea wall where an artist sat drawing the spectacle with quick deft strokes on a sketchpad.

The technical considerations of staging this event must be huge everyone knows that water and electricity don't get on. When I had arrived that morning I had watched teams of people digging a trench to the sound booth some fifty or so metres from the front of the stage for electrical cables to be laid in.

Now the sea had completely cut off both the booth and the engineers inside. They would have to wait until the tide turned, underneath their sound booth on stilts.
Livingston - This band arguably had the best time slot of the day; they played after the festival resumed, as the scenery made its transition from seawater to sand again.

A wail of guitar captured the imaginations of the first few rows back, and as more joined from the sea front we witnessed the accomplished artists rocking emotively at the front of the stage.
This was the moment to stand mesmerized by the sheer expressions of emotion; the pure moment that seems to come from nowhere that embodies what makes live music so potent.

This enjoyment was underlined when he started throwing free CDs into the crowd remarking on the glorious setting of the Beached festival. The orange sun slowly sinking on the horizon as yet more lines of people settled in waiting for the unfolding night.

The lead guitarist showed of his rock credentials with a sexy display of axe posturing, whist the hand drum sections revealed the musical versatility, which had been hitherto hinted at.
They played good strong rock songs of the sing along variety and created quite a furore on the beach. I couldn't help noticing the symbols on the guitar were akin to the kind found on a kanga, a large wrap around shawl, from South Africa.

I later found out that the group were made up of both South African and Scandinavian as well as European nationalities, making for a truly original melting pot of musical styles.

The must have ballad was a slow burner which had the lead singer on all fours crawling across the stage.
His body contorting with the sheer depth of feeling contained within his performance. At that moment I was overwhelmed by feelings of such unbridled euphoria that I looked around me to see others seemingly entranced by the majesty of Livingston. I'm sure this special moment will stay with me for many years to come.

Music Reviews - Saturday 12th March 05 - Soulflame at the White Room By Michelle Dee
Soulflame have strong Puddle of Mudd influences in both sound and song construction. The E.P. is more melodic and measured than the live performance. Nic's vocals are at times quite balladic. He reaches for the high notes with a fresh enthusiasm Read more...

Music Reviews - Friday 4th March 05 - The Ga*Ga*s at Asylum By Andy Dykes, Photo Gallery By Darren Rogers
Its rock-a-rama at Asylum: tonight. Three bands, one bill, all about the rock. First up, Disarm:. Their cover of New Order's Blue Monday is superb, harking back to Marilyn Manson and Dope's covers of new romantic greats. Disarm:'s own material is intricate Read more...

Music Reviews - Monday 28th February - Black Orchid, Diverse Unit, Second To Last, The Regicides at the Ringside
By Harry Slater
It's cold tonight, not as cold as it was this morning, but cold enough to complain about. The garish decoration of The Ringside makes a welcome change from the browns and greys of a city thawing out. The outside door, as per usual, scares the crap out of me as it slams shut Read more...

Many of you who go out on a regular basis will know the disappointment you get when you're shakin' your thing on the dance floor and the music changes to your least favourite track. Wouldn't it be nice for every song played to be one that you love, so you could party Read more...

Music Reviews - Tuesday 25th January - Mike (The Bonnits) and The Last People on Earth at The Sesh By Daniel Laney Photos by Darren Rogers
Quite saddened by the fact that this was going to be my last trip to The Sesh in a while, I hesitantly vacated the cars warm interior, knowing full well as soon as my battered trainers hit the cold, coarse concrete, the evenings egg timer would be turned and I would be left Read more...
