Music Live Band Festival Reviews |
|
 |
|
|
Ash, the trumpeter, was mostly hidden from view during the set. He was busy drawing a picture
of the Beached festival crowd; for posterity I presume.
This was to compensate for the lack of the usual projected images normally witnessed at their gigs.
The song Stainless Steel contains murderous lyrics which captured my imagination;
Please don't go into the kitchen that's where the knives are kept and I wont be held responsible...
the violin bow on the guitar strings adding to the slow torturous atmosphere.
Epic and malevolent; ILikeTrains create a musical masterpiece befitting a modern day film noir.
|
The Chamines - This band made fun their watchword as they showcased their pop punk style.
Lots of energy and rock n roll showmanship; like the sixth form cousins of Green Day.
The lead singer looks a bit like Billy Jo as well helping to make the connection, sporting the black
eyeliner too that is de-rigeur for many of today's generation of musicians.
The three-piece use short, punky vocals stunned with spiky guitar licks on One Step Ahead of the Danger,
all punctuated by the barn door kicking drums.
The rock bravado from front man Si keeps all eyes on him during Red Alert Street; simple
refrains repeated to pop perfection.
|
|
|
The speeded up Queen cover sealed it for me; fun loving pop punk fans looking to spread their
wings and crash headlong into your hearts.
I could hear the drum resounding in my throat, from Johnny Ferrets skin bashing.
More showmanship from both Syd and Si lead us into a rather fun cover of Ever fallen in love.
Later backstage the guys even gave me a copy of their three-track demo so I could take a piece
of Chamines back home.
It was at about this time that the tide finally won the battle with the crowd and the very place where
I was standing watching the bands was later awash with briny seawater.
|
|
Of course I had known all along, in the back of my head that the tide was coming in.
That is the natural order of things, ever since the moon was in the right orbit to use
its gravitational pull on the vast waters of the globe.
|
|
|
In fact the old adage of time and tide waiting for no man had been humorously illustrated when,
Alan Raw, during one of his stage announcements, had pointed out that his tent, once
safely on the beach, was now in danger of floating out to sea.
|
|
I had turned around and looked to where he was pointing and could just make out
Katy Noone the Raw Talent Producer hurriedly rescuing Alan's temporary campsite.
I remembered turning around during the last act and noticing the crowd was only a few rows deep,
then looking between the people to see the water was directly behind them.
Now the waves were just a few feet away and as people made for the safety of the promenade
and backstage area the sea sloshed around the scaffolding of the stage.

Music Reviews - Saturday 1st May - Rock the Vote at The Adelphi By Lucy Kynman
|
|
Last night's amalgamation of Elobo and Funky for Rock the Vote, dedicated to raising funds
and showing the local area's support for the green party and candidate Martin Deane,
was a great success!
Green being the theme for the night, can I just say well done to Alice; when it comes to
creativity and a unique sense for interior design you never fail to hit the mark!

Music Reviews - Saturday 23rd April - Hard-Fi, Boy Kill Boy and Turismo at Sweet n Sour, Silhouette Club By Dick Spring
with a terrfic 9 page Photo Gallery By Darren Rogers
|
|
On arrival at the front of the club I find a queue waiting to get in, so this must be some
measure of the demand for this show tonight (oh, the power of hype) though a top ten
single can't have helped the headline band's cause at all!
It was indeed packed out, it took me twenty minutes to get a drink, which is something
that needs to be addressed by

tingling and achingly beautiful.

Midge Ure at Pocklington Arts Centre - Wednesday 13th April 05 By Steve Rudd
|
|
Let me first just say that the Pocklington Arts Centre is a truly fantastic venue, and it's
quite amazing that such a quality venue graces a town that is so small.
Nestling perfectly to one side of the town's charming Market Square, this venue
is a theatre, concert hall and

Music Reviews -
Sal Paradise at The White Room - Saturday 19th March 05 By Anthony Baine
|
|
This is the first article I've ever written for thisisUll.com.
Even though I've logged on regularly for the past year or so, and I follow the local music
scene avidly, I've never been moved to put pen to paper. Until now.
About six months ago, I wandered down to The Sesh
