1000th Number One (Long Live The King)
By DJ Chris Plant

More than 27 years after he was officially declared dead, Elvis Presley has made history by claiming the 1000th British chart No 1. One Night is his 20th UK chart topper.

One Night, part of a weekly re-release campaign to mark what would have been the King's 70th birthday beat challenges from Manic Street Preachers and The Killers to the historic title.

I was going to put a bet on One Night making the 1000th No.1, but when I first looked at the chances of Elvis scoring 18 number ones in a row I thought it would be very unlikely but when you consider that singles sales are so woefully low you certainly cannot rule it out.
The Manics, Empty Souls was the highest new entry from a living artist, while The Killers new entry Somebody Told Me reached number 3, in the same week that their album Hot Fuss also climbed to number one.
