I went in to yet another pub and found Dean; he was desperately trying to get himself arrested by a
group of buxom beauties, out on a hen night.
They were all dressed in police uniforms complete with handcuffs and truncheons.
It was quite surreal, to see about twenty policewomen all drinking and laughing in a pub.
In a corner I spied the inexorable Blue Sand.
They were having a quiet drink or two before the gig.
|
|
Ellie thankfully, looked much better after having to pull out of the Adelphi gig three nights before, due to illness. Dean failed to get himself taken away, but I do have a vague memory of him being spanked, with a truncheon by one of the uniformed officers. Kinky so and so.

|
The Cavern is wicked; you descend a circular staircase three flights, until you are deep beneath Matthew Street. Then enter the cool tunnel with the famous arches on your left. At the far end of this space there is another much larger room with an impressive backlit stage, flashing pink and blue swathes of colour. The spacious dance floor accommodates at least a 100 to 150 people with ease, with a seating area on one side; it really is the perfect venue for all.
|
|
|
First on stage were a band called Khagool from Cardiff, Wales.
They played a unique blend of psychedelic/indy rock with a fresh, modern twist.
Khagool had brought their own sound engineer called Harry and a happy crowd with them from Cardiff.
They were all cheering their band, as they watched them play on the sacred Cavern stage.
I really dug their vibe; my favourite song was an infectious number called Sunrise.
|
|
At times the lead-singer has a majestic, musical tone, not unlike Neil Young.
I was later reminded of this vocal comparison when listening to their CD, which was
thrust excitedly into my hands after they finished their set.
It's good, well worth seeking out.
Khagool are an innovative band that promise much and are already
starting to deliver on those promises.
Go to www.Khagool.com for further details.
I also loved the friendly, good natured attitudes of the welsh crowd; I was made
to feel very welcome dancing among them. Much love to Sara, Chaz and the gang.

|
They got all the bits, everything you need, they got charm, they got prestige, they got it all.
They are my friends and they make good music it's just fresh and new not many other people do that sort of music. Great Bongos!
A brief chat at the end of the night with lead-singer of Khagool:
|
|
The idea behind Khagool? Well I suppose it's the music really, we just love the music really. We've only been together for about four months or something. We been writing for ages, so we got a band together. The Cavern tonight was only our tenth gig. To be in Liverpool, The Cavern it's amazing like, I can't believe it!
|
|
We gotta CD at the moment, we just waiting to go into the studio now with the band and
record new songs. Then we gonna send our CD out and if people like it, then brilliant like.
We've had a good response so far, we been played on Radio Wales a few times like, they want us to do a session for radio. It's quite emotional really when they play your song- we'd only played it to our friends and your friends hear it all the time- and then the radio say yeah it's good. It's worth it then, all the hard work; it's worth it then.
|
|
I asked whether Khagool would consider coming to Hull to do a gig:
Definitely, definitely we'll sort that out yeah. Job done like.
|
|
More by luck than design, I happened to have with me a copy of the excellent Hull Heroes Sesh CD,
and on arrival to the club had spoken with the Cavern's sound engineer (courtesy of TM Audio)
Chris Taylor.
I had discussed the possibility of playing the Sesh CD during the band intervals.
I felt it was a good opportunity to promote our city, and its considerable musical talent, in
Liverpool.
True to his word he played Hull bands in between Park and Ride
and Blue Sand, I left the CD with him to play inside the Cavern
on a regular basis; I'm sure he liked it.
|
Conversation with Gaz, lead-singer of Blue Sand just before P n R took to the stage...
Are you nervous?
No, never am,
No nerves at all?
No.
How do you feel it's gonna go?
Cool... he huh, it should be good yeah...if you're dancing?
|
|
I'll be dancing,
That's all right then...If you get all the people to sing along to the songs.
I will do, I've made friends with some of the welsh crowd.

Music Reviews - 10,000 Things at Jaz Bar - 26th October 04 By Caroline Murphy
|
|
So what do the music magazines know about the sensitive side of a group of sexed up 20-some-Things!
Their stage show gives anything but that impression, but close-up and personal in the smaller
venues of Hull Jaz Bar and Shrewsbury Buttermarket, I can tell a different story.

|
Once again tonight, Princes Ave's Linnet and Lark plays host to a evening of live bands.
With a stage littered with instruments and a bar crowded with rock n roll types, it looks
suitably like the home of what is fast becoming one of the most widely respected and
indeed played evenings in Hull.
Tonight's headliners

Music Reviews - Blind Frog Ernie, Blue Sand the Applewhites and Displacements at Piper November23rd By Michelle Dee Photos by Darren Rogers

The Piper club on Newland Avenue has, according to many people, always had something of a volatile reputation.
On more than one occasion I have heard reports from people that you always get fights and
fracas at the venue.
Indeed the last time I went to the Piper there was a very

Music Reviews - Josh Rouse and Tim Keegan at Pocklington Arts Centre - November 22nd 2004 By Nick Quantrill

Pocklington Arts Centre is a beautifully intimate all seated venue.
It's the perfect venue for tonight's gig. With high sound quality and acoustics, it's no
wonder so many acts speak well of this little known venue. Tonight saw one of America's finest
singer-songwriters, Josh Rouse, take to its stage
