Bob Geldof at Hull City Hall - Thursday 1st December 05 (4/4)
By Steve Rudd
|
(1/4),
(2/4),
(3/4),
(4/4).
|
I remarked that it was great that he'd returned to play in Hull so soon again after having
visited the city a couple of years previously to promote a Boomtown Rats Greatest Hits
compilation album.
Ah, you know, it's always a great crowd here in Hull mused Bob. And he meant it, you could tell.
Then he started chuckling to himself because there was a guy standing nearby who had
come all the way up from Rugby, and that guy had just been jokily protesting that
Bob should do more gigs further down South instead.
|
|
|
After posing for a quick photograph, I realised what he needed more than ever was
for me to ship out and leave him to rest.
But I had to shake his hand; I just had to. And so out thrust my right arm like a
knee-jerk reaction, and he mirrored the motion.
We shook hands and I thanked him for his time.
In my mind I thanked him for everything else; everything else that I didn't have
the balls to tell him, in regards to just how much impact his selfless actions
had had on me. I shook hands with my biggest hero ... and I've been
revelling in such a fact ever since.
|
|
In many respects, the night of December 1st 2005 reaffirmed my faith in human kindness,
just like the events of July 13th 1985 greatly affected my attitudes towards participating
in charity-work on a personal basis once I comprehended that a modest man by the name of
Bob Geldof had rallied around the Pop and Rock world to help stage the
biggest concert the world had ever seen in aid of Africans dying from famine.
Given his euphorically-received track record in Hull, I just hope that Bob might be able
to now find time to knuckle down and write songs for a new album so that he can hit the
road again soon, stopping off again in Hull for another mesmerising date.

People, Interviews - Interview With The Paddingtons By Joe Hakim. Photos By Ray Ribeiro and Darren Rogers
|
|
I've had to bite the bullet and start working again. It has to be done, and there are two reasons for this. Firstly, starting any new job
means starting at the bottom again, which is a good method for keeping the ego in check.
Secondly, it brings cash back into your life, which after nearly two months of bumming off
people is a welcome relief. You can only live on luck alone for so long; take the piss and you
burn it all up.

People - An Interview with Black Wire By Caroline Murphy
|
|
A month ago, Dan Tom and Si (AKA Black Wire) were simply three hot guys in a
picture, who also played damn good music.
Now however, they're still three hot guys in a picture, but in reality they're larger than
life and a million times hotter than you could ever dream!
Their set was simply awesome, and more than a fitting support to The Cribs.

People - Interview with John Hassall By JG Photos by Michelle Dee

Surely everyone's heard of The Libertines, but it seems like so far, only a
fortunate few have heard about Yeti. With their debut single
Never Lose Your Sense Of Wonder receiving very little radio airplay,
there are bound to be a lot of people left wondering who they are and what they sound like.
John Hassall may be better known as being the bass player in

Music Reviews - Saturday 21st May 05 - Under The Influence Presents Mystery Jets at the New Adelphi By Emily
Photo Gallery By Michelle Dee
|
|
It is not very often you find a band that excites you, I mean really excites you.
Yet it seems that the Mystery Jets might just be the band for the job.
As painfully honest as it is the Hull scene has needed a kick up the ass for some time now.
While still maintaining the stunning talent on show in pubs and clubs all over the city,
a firm kick is needed to rid it of the Indie addiction and mullet pretension.

Music Reviews - Saturday 14th May 05 - Power Metal UK at Ringside - Pitiful Reign, Soulflame, Infobia, Humanity and Deliverance. By Michelle Dee
|
|
I shan't try and compare the acts that performed at the Power Metal UK night with any other well-known bands of similar genre. I have no desire to try and talk authoritatively on a school of music I haven't followed since the early days of Terrorvision and Silverchair.
However, Deliverance the headlining band, from Italy, have definite

Music Reviews - Saturday 1st May - Rock the Vote at The Adelphi By Lucy Kynman
|
|
Last night's amalgamation of Elobo and Funky for Rock the Vote, dedicated to raising funds
and showing the local area's support for the green party and candidate Martin Deane,
was a great success!
Green being the theme for the night, can I just say well done to Alice; when it comes to
creativity and a unique sense for interior design you never fail to hit the mark!

Music Reviews - Saturday 23rd April - Hard-Fi, Boy Kill Boy and Turismo at Sweet n Sour, Silhouette Club By Dick Spring
with a terrfic 9 page Photo Gallery By Darren Rogers
|
|
On arrival at the front of the club I find a queue waiting to get in, so this must be some
measure of the demand for this show tonight (oh, the power of hype) though a top ten
single can't have helped the headline band's cause at all!
It was indeed packed out, it took me twenty minutes to get a drink, which is something
that needs to be addressed by

What a fantastic night.
No really, if you weren't there then you missed out on seeing some of the finest
bands the other side of sanity.
The monthly local music magazine, oft slated in its own backyard landed a
winning formula tonight.
Ernest, who everyone should experience, continue to be spine
tingling and achingly beautiful.

Midge Ure at Pocklington Arts Centre - Wednesday 13th April 05 By Steve Rudd

Let me first just say that the Pocklington Arts Centre is a truly fantastic venue, and it's
quite amazing that such a quality venue graces a town that is so small.
Nestling perfectly to one side of the town's charming Market Square, this venue
is a theatre, concert hall and

scene avidly, I've never been moved to put pen to paper. Until now.
About six months ago, I wandered down to The Sesh
