Who Is Phil Marshall? By DJ Chris Pant

In the year 2000 Phil Marshall released a solo acoustic EP entitled The Atlantic Project. In 2003 he released an amazing album entitled Dondonisi. Most recently, Phil recorded a Live CD at The Big Coffee in 2004 (which I had the honour of introducing on the night).

So, who is Phil Marshall?

As it says on Phil's website ( www.philmarshall.biz ) - The lad's a prolific songwriter.
Phil is English and was raised in Yorkshire. He was born in Hull in November 1978. He rates U2, Radiohead and The Smashing Pumpkins among his influences and is a former member of British indie-rock band, King Rupert (from 1993-97).

I was their biggest young fan - even missing school the next day after going to watch them at The Adelphi in 1994.
Phil has opened for Kula Shaker, The Longpigs, Echo's Subcircus, and The Sultans of Ping and was nominated for and has won music awards in both England and the United States.
He has also made numerous appearances on BBC radio (including a show in 2002 hosted by myself, DJ Chris Plant) and had considerable airtime on stations throughout the US. One of his tracks, Gravity (taken from his album Dondonisi) charted on FMQB at 150 in the United States of America.

Over the last few years, Phil has gigged extensively throughout England, Europe and the US playing both solo acoustic and with the band. Phil has performed live for crowds of up to 24,000 at the KC Stadium. Imagine it. All those screaming City fans!
This year Phil has carried out a successful mini tour with his full band Dondonisi, playing venues in the US and UK.

Three words Phil uses to describe his music: Self-styled, empowering, thought provoking. Ok, so that's really five words, six if you stretch it.

Phil is a great musician and a top guy. You can listen to his music and enjoy it and listen a second time to understand why he wrote it. Phil will make it to the top because he deserves it!
