Music Album/CD Reviews

Face of Scars- Deathblow (11 Reasons to Fight)
By Harry Slater

If life was a film, then Face of Scars: would be the soundtrack to the scene when the intrepid hero gets his head kicked in repeatedly. Sadly, life isn't a film, but if on the off chance I ever get my head kicked in repeatedly, I will probably be singing Face of Scars: songs in my head while it happens.

This is violence captured on CD, hardcore metal at its very best, if it was any heavier, it would probably change the gravitational pull of the world and send us tumbling headlong into the sun.
Rather than the current trend of inoffensive and watered down metal posing as hardcore, Face of Scars: have gone in the other direction, infusing a sludgy metal noise with hardcore beats and death metal growls to create something rather special. Songs blitz by at awesome speeds, driven by head throbbingly pounding drums and buzz saw under water guitars, all complimented by a perfectly distorted bass sound.

The vocals aren't delicately layered harmonies but a bass growl reminiscent of a pack of wild dogs about to strike. There's no respite here, no punches are pulled and everything is played until it's broken.
Live Face of Scars: are a sight to behold, but this CD has captured the insanity and intensity almost perfectly. The overall production is professional, but not so much as it takes away any edge from proceedings, rather it separates what could have been a mess into a cohesive and brutal whole.
The inlay card on nice shiny paper is plastered with offensive material, mug shots and remnants of heavy nights out and finishes off the package nicely.

I think the band themselves put it best on the final track of the album Nam. This is like a shotgun blast into the f*****g face. This is music that will leave you battered, bloody and begging for more.
