Phil Marshall - Intended As Demo's
By DJ Chris Plant
|
I sat down today and listened to an amazing album, namely Intended As Demo's by Hull born
artist Phil Marshall.
The music is special and the lyrics have a lot of meaning.
None of this crap we are hearing in the charts (i.e. - Busted - I messed my pants).
What's that all about? In fact who are Busted?
I thought it would be nice for me to rate every track on the album (being a DJ and all).
So here are my own thoughts and opinions.
|
|
Energy: The first track on the album works for me.
The lyrics are meaningful (Can't get out of my bed and I need some energy).
The beautiful acoustics ring around my mind whilst the lyrics pan around left
and right ear. 8/10
Reaching Out: Probably my favourite track on the album.
I couldn't get the chorus out of my head for days and to me that's the sign of a
quality catchy track. Lovely Stuff! 10/10
|
|
24 Hours: This is quite a depressing track (I think) and I get the impression
that Phil is singing about his ambition to make it in life and the fact that his
friends all have careers (which I can relate to being a musical one track minded
person) i.e. - nothing's gonna stop us (whatever gets in the way).
I give this track a nine outta ten due to the fact it brought a tear to my eye
and I can relate to the lyrics. 9/10
I Should Have Known Myself: Repetitive track, but again, it works for me.
I like the way Phil's voice finds the highest possible notes. I couldn't help
joining in (even though I was walking with my music player on).
People staring but hey WHO CARES! 8/10
|
Would You Run Away: A bit of a last dance track (very smoochy).
I will be tempted to play this at my next wedding reception.
I might be wrong but I think Phil is singing about his relationships with the chicks. 7/10
Driving To You: USA feelings come through strong in this well worked track.
Driving around the States (to the gigs).
He meets people in this track, who make him think (i.e. - The cowboy
in the wheelchair, that cherishes the sky).
A short track at only 1:59. His feelings come across well. 8/10
|
Jaded: This made me think of Happy Go Lucky Guy (a track taken from Phil's
solo acoustic EP The Atlantic Project). I thought, This is another classic track....
Lovely piano work, a lovely voice and a great ballad. 10/10
Cold Outside: Didn't like the start of this track.
Doesn't really go anywhere for me. Sorry! 6/10
Fast Realisation: Straight into the lyrics, an upbeat track that makes
the foot start tapping. Some fast vocals and guitar work from Phil and
different effects that work well. 8/10
|
|
These Are The Days: What an amazing way to finish the album.
This is a brilliant track. I can see the ladies with their lighters held high.
Swaying from side to side. Another tearjerker.
Phil's feelings come across in this beautiful piece of music. 10/10
The album Intended As Demo's is an amazing piece of work by a very talented musician.
My favourite three tracks on the album are These Are The Days, Jaded and Reaching Out.
Watch this space for the rise of Phil Marshall.
He's going somewhere... I don't know where and I don't know when (But
I have every confidence in him). He will succeed! Well done Phil and good luck, mate! 8/10

One of the most extraordinary and surprisingly thrilling albums I've heard in years,

If you're fed up with second-rate rock bands that don't know a decent riff if it's injected into
