Hulls flagship band The Landaus have, over the last few months, improved beyond all recognition.
Overall the band is tighter and by changing the levels of output on the bass and
guitars have redefined the Landaus sound, lending it contrasting shape and form.
They have also recently written some blisteringly good rock n roll songs including
Courtney Cox and Lady Killer.

As mentioned earlier the smiling Steff underpins the great riffs and bold bass lines from
Gaz, with thunderous drumbeats. It is more than just percussion it's Supercussion.
The Landaus are taking it to the next level as their confidence in the music and
each other's ability grows and grows. A blinding set with many shining moments.
An excellent example to other bands that practice really can pay off.
The single What Ya Cryin For released on Dagalost Records through Lazyswede Promotions is available from the band.
|
It also features the songs Reality and Game of Life a bargain: all for less than the price of a pint of lager.
Then came Sunday upstairs at the Welly where Blue Sand's stable mates Park and Ride were
supporting Brighton band The Kooks and the sizzling Dead 60s.
Opening the door upstairs in the Welly was like opening the door to a furnace.
Thankfully Soultrader, DJ from Grapevine, had fans switched on blowing out cold air,
near the DJ box. Tonight's crowd seemed a little standoffish and the atmosphere wasn't quite right.
|
|
|
Having been to The Cavern with Park and Ride, where they had a great gig, I knew tonight
was going to be good. Park and Ride don't act cool and they don't have false rock n roll pretensions.
They do however, have strong catchy songs that you can sing and dance to with
your friends: far more important than stripes and scarves.
|
|
They do not belong to the current rock n roll trend that is tearing through the city; they
have a lively sound, vivacious and full of life.
They opened with Bad Guys and proceed to play through the much-loved set list.
Smell of Success was just that, and No Way Back gives all five musicians a chance to shine.
The boys can all play and spark of each other well especially Simon and Paul bass and lead guitar players.
|
|
|
Park and Ride also has the most enthusiastic and friendly fan base of all the Hull bands in my experience.
A roar of approval is heard when Animated Alex Haribo gets up in front of the 150+ crowd
and shows of his unique dance style.
I am watching with amusement when another exuberant Park and Rider by the name of
Steve rushes towards me and I find myself lifted up in the air.

What a fantastic night.
No really, if you weren't there then you missed out on seeing some of the finest
bands the other side of sanity.
The monthly local music magazine, oft slated in its own backyard landed a
winning formula tonight.
Ernest, who everyone should experience, continue to be spine
tingling and achingly beautiful.
Last night they grabbed

Midge Ure at Pocklington Arts Centre - Wednesday 13th April 05 By Steve Rudd
|
|
Let me first just say that the Pocklington Arts Centre is a truly fantastic venue, and it's
quite amazing that such a quality venue graces a town that is so small.
Nestling perfectly to one side of the town's charming Market Square, this venue
is a theatre, concert hall and

On a Thursday afternoon I stood outside Debenhams in town waiting for the minibus to arrive from Hedon.
Today I was travelling to London to see Ernest headline in Camden.

Sal Paradise at The White Room - Saturday 19th March 05 By Anthony Baine

|
This is the first article I've ever written for thisisUll.com.
Even though I've logged on regularly for the past year or so, and I follow the local music
scene avidly, I've never been moved to put pen to paper. Until now.
About six months ago, I wandered down to The Sesh

Saturday 12th March 05 - Soulflame at the White Room By Michelle Dee
|
|
Soulflame have strong Puddle of Mudd influences in both sound and song construction.
The E.P. is more melodic and measured than the live performance.
Nic's vocals are at times quite balladic. He reaches for the high notes with a fresh
enthusiasm

Why the hell do I do these things, it's not to get my skirt pulled up by some drunken goat
called Mark that's for sure.
If this had been in an office and not a nightclub then I would have you up for sexual
harassment make no mistake. Did I see you go around lifting up other girls' apparel?
