Music CD Live Band Clubs Reviews
still life and Sidewinder play the Welly Club
Late Nite Line-up 13th November

Well, they came up trumps - the cd does not do them justice.

You have to see them live. They're worth paying more than a couple of quid to see.

They make you sit up and start to listen.

Some of their songs are like poetry to music - listen to Murder by Proxy and you'll know what I mean.
Paul Terry, lead singer, has such an individual and versatile voice - he sings like he means it all.
And they must keep that James singing.
Plainly, still life have got their act together.

Maybe their stint off the scene for a while has produced something worth waiting for.

And I'm not kidding.
AND they're from Hull!

Sidewinder

Another one of Hull's good things.

I've seen Graham Norton (bass/vocals) progress through several local bands over what must be the past 10 years or so and I've a feeling that maybe this, at last, is it.

I've always known he was good really great voice and a talented bass player.

And I've also always known him to play with 'Moggie' (drums).

I guess they're quite a force on their own.
Now they've teamed up with Chris (guitar/vocals) and Neil (guitar), I think they're ready to go somewhere.
This band have just come out of the recording studio and have heard noises from an interested record company.

I'm waiting to see how they sound on cd - and hoping to put some downloads on thisisull.com too.

Sidewinder are genuinely good musicians and singers and as a whole, they have a kind of laid back persona. It seems to come easy.
And its my type of music.

It's not scream in your face music, it's not Kylie (thank god), its not pop, its not drum solos and heavy guitars.

And it's pointless trying to compare them to anyone else.
Last light's show was what live music is supposed to be about. Raw and meaty!

Something to get your teeth into. I'm even more of a convert than I was before.

Both bands I saw were outstanding and I think, show promise of greater things to come. I do hope so.

Was it good? Bloody right, it was. Its was real and new and most of all, alive.
STOP PRESS:

After their gig at the Welly Club, these guys have arranged, for your delight, a night of live, new music:

Sidewinder and still life (plus support) will be playing together at the Adelphi on November 20th - £2.50 on the door.

And I'll be there too - looking forward to hearing your point of view!

Music Reviews - Cracktown By Nicholas Boldock
Cracktown - consisting of Silver Fox on vocals/harmonica and King Rat on guitar/vocals - have been together for nearly a year. Time, then, for their first demo CD - and here it is, all 45 minutes of it. No four-song samplers for these boys - no, you get 12 tracks for your money, and not a filler among them.

Music Reviews - Adelphi NightClub
It had been a long day covering Grass Roots Sunday festival in Pearson Park, and after a short kip I was to skip down to the Adelphi Nightclub where I had a couple of beers and took some photos and details of the acts and performers for www.thisisUll.com

Music Reviews
"Homespun" by Homespun
By Kevin Cross
Comprising the talents of Beautiful South guitarist Dave Rotheray and cockney songstress Sam Brown, I came across this new album quite by chance. Bolstered by members of the excellent Hull music scene, including renowned singer/songwriter Matthew Hogg, this album deserves national acclaim as it is, I can say without fear of contradiction, a revelation.

Music Reviews - Superscape
Music Reviews - Superscape By Cilla Hull based band Superscape have been around for more years than the individual members care to remember. With a slightly altered line-up, some comings and goings, and short respite, the band now seem raring to go.

When someone mentions Glastonbury, what do you think of? Long-haired hippies in tie-dyed shirts smoking pot; a musical marathon; a mud bath?
