Electric Eel Shock & Antiproduct at The Kazbah, Scarborough 25th March 04
By Steve Rudd

Antiproduct is the coolest and most exhilarating punk band since The Sex Pistols.
Stopping at nothing to put on the most entertaining show possible at every gig they play, this wacky quintet might be based in London, but they make it known loud-and-clear that they prefer playing up North because the crowds are up for having a far greater time than those down South.
The success of an Antiproduct gig does weigh heavily on the quality and the quantity of the crowd to which they are playing.

Frontman singer/guitarist Alex Kane is big on audience participation, and if the punters aren't up for having a laugh and getting involved then it's damn hard work for the band.
The highlight of the show more often than not comes early in the set when their Bungee-Jumping People Die anthem kicks in and Alex vaults over the barrier to join his awaiting public for a good old sing-a-long, crowdsurfing if there are enough willing people to carry him.

Tonight there were, and Alex ended up with his legs entwined around the lighting rig precariously hanging from the Kazbah's rafters, which proved an extraordinary sight - and bit of a headache for the venue's staff.
I'm sure I heard shouts of My God - Cover your eyes.. the whole lot's gonna come crashing!!!
Luckily for Alex and everyone stood beneath him, the lighting rig was secured firmly to the ceiling.

More importantly, the crowd loved every second of both this loopy stunt and the rest of the gig, which heard choice cuts from both their Consume And Die and Made In The USA albums thrashed out (Why does it say it's made in the USA? shouts Alex in mock pantomime fashion.. Because it's full of evil!)

Glammed up beneath fluorescent make-up, hair gel and bangles, all five members look a glorious Technicolour sight to behold.
If only more bands whom so spiritedly thwack out punk-rock 'n' roll in this manner had such a sense of humour as Antiproduct ..
Having said that, Japanese trio Electric Eel Shock do. I mean, two bands in one night who make it glaringly obvious that they really do love what they are doing, and that they still believe whole-heartedly in the power of punk-rock music. What are the chances of that?

This, the second visit to the town for the Tokyo-hailing boys, spawned a classic set and - overall - a truly unforgettable gig.
EES are just as mad as Antiproduct, what with the drummer butt-naked save for his trademark sock-over-dick routine and the fact that all members never seem to stop smiling or thanking the crowd for simply being in their presence and listening to their full-throttle, lethally angular rock music, peppered with some breathtaking rock guitar solos so impressive surely Jimi was stirred from sleep.
They too have a fantastic sense of humour, and while the raw intensity of Do The Metal and Suicide Rock and Roll do hit hard, tongues are set-in-stone in their cheeks - and at the end of the night all Electric Eel Shock really aspire to is to have some serious fun.

Now that's the spirit.

Music Reviews - Adelphi, Hull, 18th April Jaws drop in Hull and appreciation for local bands rise. By Mike Rofone
Crowbar Smile, DUMPVALVE, Mad Crowd Disease, Multiple Injuries, Planet 10 It's cold, it's wet and it's miserable. Now there are two things I could do on this gloomy Sunday afternoon in April. Number one; I could stay at home in a lovely quiet village, pondering how I've become so overdrawn and kick myself when I figure out the reason. Or, Read more...

Music Reviews- Multiple Injuries at The Ringside, Hull - Wednesday 14th April 2004 By Dick Spring
This venue is a new addition to the Hull circuit, and I was informed that the booking is in the very capable hands of Determination Inc (who were the driving force behind, the late, lamented, Moriarty's ) and are bringing the magic touch to this venue, with a newly installed 2k PA system. The new Wednesday night Read more...

Music Reviews- Jesse James / Fraction of the Cost / The Trailers The Adelphi, Thur 15th April 2004 By Mike Rofone.
Entering the Adelphi Club and hearing a band completing their sound check is never an unusual thing. To be quite honest it's welcoming, like an appetiser it gets your taste buds going making you anxious to try the first course. As usual, the Adelphi is always welcoming, its timeless décor and stale smells of spilt booze and stubbed out cigarettes Read more...

Music Reviews- Jesse James / Fraction of the Cost / The Trailers The Adelphi, Thur 15th April 2004 By Dick Spring
Smash it Up teamed up with the Adelphi to bring the self styled Punk Soul Brothers Jesse James back to the Adelphi. Yet another busy night, as always when Jesse James swing into town. First up were three piece pop punk band THE TRAILERS from Bridlington, and contrary to reports about them being dreadfully bad, I can report Read more...

Featuring DumpValve, Mad Crowd Disease, Faith in Chaos and Ringworm This promised to be an interesting night, as I had only seen 2 of the bands before and had never visited the Bivouac before. We arrived early and witnessed a very rare thing - a proper sound check. The guy who runs the place, Steve Hawkins had Read more...

Music Reviews- Champion Sound at the Welly - Friday 9th April 04 By Ed Hunter
A THOUSAND rude boys gyrated to the pulsating Jamaican rhythms and the batty shaking was in full effek.. ..Well, no they didn't actually. And no it wasn't. Champion Sound at Welly Club on Friday night was quiet. The dance floor seemed a bit dead which is a shame for a weekend. Dancehall has a great groove Read more...

By Reena Mistry - The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night. The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night. Having never been to one of these nights I wasn't sure what to expect, probably just another live band night? Far from it, as the first thing to greet you as you walk through the door is the resident DJ who blasts out great music and nearly all of it Read more...
