Music Live Band Reviews
Morrissey and The Dead 60's on Monday 6th September at
Bridlington Spa By Steve Rudd

As for the number of people who made it their objective to shake hands with Morrissey, it was amazing to witness so many manic fans of the man crowdsurfing their way forward, over the top of the front row and into the pit. Luckily for them, Morrissey seemed completely unfazed by his fans' degree of hero-worshipping devotion and deftly made it his duty to shake as many hands as possible before such fans were hastily ushered away by security, before being kicked out of the venue for being unruly.
Some fans went to extremes and plotted to rush the stage: an exhilarating act for both the fan to perpetrate and the crowd to witness.

And the people rushing the stage, by clambering over the safety barrier and ducking around the amplifiers at the side of the stage, were all male. One of them weaved past security with feline grace, making for an iconic moment on its own grounds, as he dropped to his knees and offered Morrissey one of his hands in tribute to him, the King of down-to-earth Pop.
Dominating the stage with a rare kind of seemingly untouchable swagger, Morrissey - to degrees - is England's equivalent of Elvis. He is still so good-looking and cool, so much of a dignified gentleman. Oh, and such a great singer and songwriter, and without a doubt one of most important figures ever to have made a name for himself in the annals of English pop-music.
Just listen to that voice of his, and heed what he is saying. One of his new anthems and recent chart hit Irish Blood, English Heart unflinchingly hits out at the way this country is governed (We're sick to death of Labour and Tories) and struck a chord with all his fans who are sick of being forced to live the type of lives that they don't want to. On the upside, I couldn't imagine one person who was lucky enough to be at this show ever getting sick of what Morrissey has to say, or sing.

He is a great man, blessed with a great voice, in pursuit of a better life for both himself and all those who share similar passions. No wonder then that so many people left the venue with tears in their eyes that reflected the glint all the more.

Music Reviews - Blind Frog Ernie, Le Shed, Shindigg, Killer of Saints, Displacements at the Piper Club Tuesday 7th September 2004 By Andy Dykes
I walk through the door of The Piper tonight, straight into a wall of sound created by three guys who look and sound like a very early Blink 182. This band is Displacements. It's hard to figure out exactly what's going on until they introduce a little subtlety. And then it all starts to sound pretty good. Vocally, neither singer Read more...

Music Reviews - Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 19th August - 5678's, 59 Violets and The Morphines By Andy Dykes
I've heard tonight's openers The Morphines described as something like Ian Curtis singing with The Clash. If my musical arithmetic is correct, then The Morphines should sound something like Sham 69. And they do. A bit. While the garage rock revival grips the world like nuclear war, The Morphines hark back to an era Read more...

Music Reviews - HarriWatts Band Comin' Out Party At The Lamp Wednesday 4th August By Jane Foster
This is the first time I've really seen the Harri Watts band properly. I did in theory see them at the Lamp once before, at the Cracktown Christmas Carol last year. But that was after several flagons of fine ale and much good cheer, with a bit of rubber chicken abuse thrown in. A perfect night in my book, Read more...

Music Reviews - Sons of the Desert at the Nagshead Friday 30th July By Jane Foster
Sons of the Desert are a 9-piece soul covers band who have been dishing out their fine meaty goods to the people of 'ull for roundabout a decade..give or take a few changes in their line-up over the years. Last time I saw them was last Christmas at the selfsame pub, and I thought they were rather grand then, so I Read more...

Music Reviews - Jaz Bar 10th August 2004 The Ludes, The Mardous, 59 Violets, The Applewhites By Andy Dykes
The classy setting of the Old Town's Jaz Bar plays unlikely host to a range of bands tonight. The wooden floors and high concrete ceilings make Jaz Bar an unusual choice for this evening's entertainment. Combined with an absence of carpets, cushions on chairs and curtains on windows and I get the feeling that there are going to be a Read more...

Music Reviews - CrackTown, Purple Organ & Blue Sand at The Adelphi Saturday 24th July By Michelle Dee
I am lucky to count King Rat and the Silver Fox as friends, so you can imagine my surprise and delight when upon entering the Adelphi on a rainy summer night, I heard the familiar sound of Foxy's harmonica emanating from within. I had no idea they were on tonight's eclectic line up. Read more...
