Rides The Bus CD Release Night at Bivouac, Duke Of Wellington, Lincoln with Mad Crowd Disease, Negative IQ, Neon Child - 23rd April 04 By Steve Jones
Unfortunately I missed the first band, Neon Child, although I heard that they went down well especially as they are relatively new to playing live.

The second band up was Negative IQ. These boys were starting to build up a following round the Lincoln area last year before they skedaddled off to Leicester Uni and other bands.

They had reformed for the Rides The Bus party and apparently had only rehearsed the once prior to the gig. They have never sounded better. The vocalist was on top form and the band was surprisingly tight considering their extended break.
The audience (one of the largest I've witnessed at the Bivouac) were on fire, bouncing around and chanting the catchy punk choruses. Highlight of the set had to be the crowd favourite Where's your Daddy. I'm sure had the neggys wanted to they could have let the audience sing the refrain until well into the night.
Next up was Mad Crowd Disease, who needed no introduction to the Bivouac crowd. From the first sonic blast of punk guitar to the very last beat of the drums they were in the audience's faces and boy did the audience responded noisily and aggressively; the mosh pit was a sight to behold - flailing limbs, bodies bouncing, sweat dripping from soaked bodies.

Only the very brave (or very drunk) should enter a Mad Crowd mosh pit, the safest place is way at the back of the room, otherwise you're likely to get caught up.
The set seemed all too brief although most of the fans favourites were in there; Mr No-one, Losers Anthem and the relatively new The Mystery Of The Magic Spider which is starting to firmly embed itself into the minds of the audience.

They also rather cheekily played a tribute to Rides The Bus by covering Not Just Yet, the crowd reacted loudly, particularly when Darren from RTB joined them on stage and took over guitar duties. Rehearsed? I don't think so but a rare moment.
Finally, it was the turn of Rides The Bus. And what a blinder of a set they played. Dawson works the crowd so well to the point where mid set he told the audience to sit down and they did!! Virtually everybody in the room sat on the floor (including the band) and slowly skanked away.

Of course this wasn't going to last and as the band played through their set the audience were up and bouncing around to Stormin Sunday, Mosey On In and of course Not Just Yet.
The Bus has really come on lately, they're now very tight and have a good stage presence that reaches out to the listener compelling them to sit up and listen (or more likely skank their socks off).

Unfortunately the audience had thinned out by the time The Bus got to their last song (but that's more down to local public transport than anything else ) but the remaining stalwarts in the crowd gave their all to the last note, savouring the (Farse tinged) ska.

A triumph for Rides The Bus, an excellent set and by all accounts the number of CDs sold surpassed expectations, although after tonights set everybody was going to want one.

Music Reviews - One Lick Less, Park & Ride, Sidewinder at The New Adelphi Club, Hull Saturday 8th May 04 By Douglas Colvin
This Saturday night saw Hull's Adelphi club doing what it does best. On stage were three local bands playing different styles of music to a decidedly mixed audience of friends, fans and curious passers by. On stage first were One Lick Less, three guys playing an unusual brand of Rock 'n' Roll. In an abrupt five song set, they managed to Read more...

Music Reviews - Mad Crowd Disease is a punk band. By Brian
The bottom line; Mad Crowd Disease is a punk band. They don't claim to be anything else. Don't want to be anything else. Off stage, Cal, Danny and Gaz are pleasant enough young men, on stage however, they seem to transform, Hyde-like, into aggressive noise merchants, peddling their own brand of punk. Read more...

Music Reviews - Saturday Night Was More Than Alright - Sidewinder , Park&Ride, Onelickless at The Adelphi - Saturday 8th May 04 By Paul Monkman
The Adelphi Club on DeGrey Street has witnessed hundreds and thousands of the city's best bands play over the years but rarely are three performances of such a high standard as the ones which entertained the crowd on Saturday night. Onelickless opened proceedings with half-an-hour of genuine rock and proved to be the perfect warm-up Read more...

Music Reviews - Smash it Up! Dead or American, Windum Earl, The Favours, Minions of Jeffrey At the Adelphi, Hull Thursday 6th May 2004 By Dick Spring
Well, on the face of it, it looked like a somewhat strange billing, but the bringing together of these different strands of punk rock, two of which were from Hull, and though widely regarded as indie they contained ample loudness and blariness to qualify for the tag. Openers Minions of Jeffrey, appeared to have more people on stage than Read more...

Music Reviews - The Freddy James Band at The Tap and Spile, Spring Bank 3rd Sunday of every month By Elsie Creek
The Freddy James Band is traditional, old-school live blues playing at its finest. They like to consider their music as a variation on an old theme, changing rhythms and riffs to add interest to what is essentially a very simple format. You can see the restraint it takes the Tap's patrons not to get up Read more...

Music Reviews - harriwattsband & Friends at Blue Lamp - Wednesday 31st March 03 By Elsie Creek
The Lamp is a great venue, in a good location. There always seems to be something going on there, be it music or madness, so it's no surprise that some patrons never seem to leave. I don't make it to as many of the events as I would like, but this was one I felt compelled to attend, despite the Read more...

Music Reviews - The Displacements at the Polar Bear By Steve Rudd
Three bands were on for what was the Polar Bear's first ever Melodic Punk/Grunge/Ska type night. A fairly large crowd saw all girl band Black Orchid, Green Ginger and headliners Displacements all contributing to an extremely successful night. So successful that the organiser said that despite it Read more...

Music Reviews- Winnebago Deal, Killer of Saints and Brassik Lynt At Full Metal Jacket, The Asylum, Hull Student Union - 30th April 04 By Adam Kilsby (Full Galleries).
Friday 30th April saw Asylum's monthly rock night, Full Metal Jacket, ending its most successful year in style. As well as the usual musical mayhem that can be found on the night, as a special treat the organisers laid on three bands. First up were Brassik Lynt. Due to the early stage time Asylum was still Read more...

Music Reviews- Winnebago Deal, Killer of Saints and Brassik Lynt At Full Metal Jacket, The Asylum, Hull Student Union - 30th April 04 By Thomas Law (Full Galleries).
I must admit I've been looking forward to this gig for ages. The chance to see 3 up and coming metal bands in one night was gonna provide some serious relief from exam stress and if it didn't the alcohol is cheap enough to fill any void. However, anyone would went would know that this was a night to remember. First up were Read more...

Music Reviews- Winnebago Deal, Killer of Saints and Brassik Lynt At Full Metal Jacket, The Asylum, Hull Student Union - 30th April 04 By Chris Jarratt (Full Galleries).
The night started off with considerable excitement, everyone at college had been buzzing for weeks, and the promo posters had been up at uni and college and handed out in town to mini-moshers et al. The line up included two local bands; Killer of Saints and Brassik Lynt, and a signed band I'd not heard of before. During the sound checks we Read more...

Music Reviews-Under the Influence at the Adelphi - 24th April 04 Blue Sand, ..divided by time and The Vultures By Michelle Dee
Saturday night at the Adelphi and the crowd was buzzing. The Vultures kicked the night off in style. Their first song was for the Johnno's. I don't know which Johnno's they were referring to but it didn't matter. With a catchy Led Zep sounding riff they launched into their 20 song set. Read more...
