Music Live Band Reviews |
..divided by time at The Indie Society, University of Hull, Thursday 25th March
By Reena Mistry
Any band who commit themselves to influences such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Pixies, REM and Velvet Underground may appear to have bitten off more than the average mouthful.
However, from the intro that provided the proverbial quiet before the storm, which then moved smoothly into first song Beat Again, ..divided by time appeared from the offset to live up to their alternative label.
Faster Than One and On A Mountain amplified a gritty and musically intelligent rhythm that began to form the stamp on which this band attempts to stand.
It is said that good performances are noted by particular songs that stick, songs which provide the fundamental ingredient to make the audience actually listen and not just hear the music.
World is a Playground is that song, played with fantastic musical abandon. This song amplified the spirit in which it was written by the way that it was played.
The tempo was juxtaposed with the melodic Hands, assaulting the audience with mesmerising guitar overtones, gentle yet powerful.
The set ended on an incredulous high with the fast paced Jaan, a song that certainly cemented the impressive performance.
Appreciation from the crowd saw ..divided by time perform Some Redemption for their encore.

Live Music Reviews - Blue Sand at The Sesh - Linnet & Lark - 1st April 04
By Rich Porter
The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night.
Having never been to one of these nights I wasn't sure what to expect, probably just another live band night? Far from it, as the first thing to greet you as you walk through the door is the resident DJ who blasts out great music and nearly all of it

Music Reviews-
Flatline, Die-For,The 30 Second Dead, Twice A Riot, The White Room, 28th March By Dick Spring
Unfortunately The Defected were on stupidly early and I missed them but I did arrive in time to catch Twice a Riot, featuring Harry's great new hair!
I have to say that this band do this screamo metal/ hardcore crossover pretty well and is certainly a giant leap forward from singer (screamer) Harry and bassist Arthur's previous musical outings.

This made for a really good atmosphere. And it turned out to be a night and a half.

Music Reviews -
Inner Terrestrials, Die For, Flatline (with Greg) Adelphi, Hull 21st March 2004 By Dick Spring
Well, indeed, what an eventful evening! With Mark (Flatline's singer) unavailable due to work commitment, it was left up to Greg, from Freaks Union to join his friends for an impromptu run through a couple of songs.
On the face of it, this seemed like a bit of fun, though it would appear that certain people saw it differently

Music Reviews-The Ordinary Boys,Mower,The Applewhites, The Hideaways at Adelphi, Hull 10 March
By Dick Spring
Well this is the second Under the Influence night I've experienced and it has left me impressed.
It would appear there is another visionary Promoter in the city (alongside Nigel, of the legendary Smash it Up Punk Nights) that quite frankly leaves all the other rank amateurs standing.
Speaking to Dean Shakespeare (for that is he) it was clear that here is a

Music Reviews - A Night at the Asylum - Hull Uni - 9th March 04
By Michelle Dee
The Asylum beckoned for three excited girls on a cold Tuesday night. They were not mad, just crazy about Cracktown who were playing that night at the newly refurbished Asylum venue at Hull University.
Coming out of the Old Grey Mare we spotted our heroes, King Rat and The Silver Fox striding down Cottingham Road.
Overjoyed to be in the

Music Reviews - The Vultures, Blue Sand & Superscape at the Adelphi - Saturday 20th March 04 By Cilla
This was one of those under-advertised gigs which do slip through the net sometimes, but which was really worth seeing.
Really good atmosphere, friendly crowd and great music.
I knew Superscape were playing and after watching them last week at the Welly, then hearing them do a stunning set on BBC Radio's Raw Talent, I really wanted to see them play again.
I knew I wouldn't be

Music Reviews - Smash It Up - The Adelphi, 14th March 2004 By Andy Mawer
First up was HeadUp. No one really knew what to make of them when they stepped up onto the stage with their flowing long hair and obviously metal instruments, as after all it was a punk gig!
But they didn't disappoint , the riffs they ripped out at us were solid yet melodic at the same time. The vocalist was headbanging away
and I think everyone enjoyed his short but
