Pozition Nightclub Hull, Wednesday Rock Night
By Paul
As a veteran of the Hull rock scene and regular of the rock night (Bug) at Room, I decided to check out the new venue.
In the past the pre-Bug warm up was at Biarritz (George Street). We used to enjoy DJ Feeby (One of the best newer rock DJ's around) a game of pool and a good laugh with the friendly staff. It seems this is no longer the case. Biarritz has closed down on a Wednesday. I asked the door staff at Pozition if they knew the new venue for the warm up. They were vague to say the least. After a little head scratching they suggested Sharkeys, although a popular venue for students and more conventional club goers this was not really my scene. They pumped out 80's pop and I was surrounded by suits. Their second choice was Venue; on closer inspection Venue was deserted.
I ended up in Rugby Tavern which was full of old people playing darts etc which didn't warm me up for anything! .
When we finally got to the club itself there was a queue which was something I had never been used at a rock club.
I don't know why this is. While we where waiting something very bizarre happened, a person had moved up the queue whilst chatting to his friend further along. As a rule rockers don't care about queues and pushing in etc as we are usually a pretty laid back bunch. The door man went out of his way to get this person out of the queue and to the back. From this display I got a feeling that the staff hadn't really experienced many rock nights. On entry there was a brief bag search; fair enough.

Pozition Nightclub Hull, Wednesday Rock Night
By Paul
Once inside, I was not disappointed. The bars where cheap (I paid £1 for a large Pepsi and £1.50 for I pint of beer) and very little time waiting to be served.
The sound system and lighting effects were excellent and the dance floors and layout of the club were also first rate. The music was mainly newer rock with a few older tracks dotted about. DJ Chippy (Corporation) played to the same standard as he ever did in Room. In fact it is a extremely good rock night!!!!.
The doorman on the dance floor was the most off-putting thing yet, though. He stood glowering at everyone and marching around like an angry bear. You didn't feel comfortable to let your hair down and totally enjoy the music.
Overall, this was a very good night but my suggestion is that the security staff need to visit some rock nights in other towns to learn how to run a successful night as they very seriously let the event down.

During those pre-teen days of dramatic sexual awakenings, Roy always strived and usually achieved, a brief respite of self-indulgent escapism. By scraping together un-spent bus fares and school dinner money he'd often have enough to visit the local cinema most weeks.

That's when I met Robert Needham. My first impression was that maybe he was a member of the clergy, presenting me with a warm smile and outstretched hand,
smartly dressed, little thin maybe, definitely an interesting looking character.
