Adelphi, Hull, 18th April
April Powers - Jaws drop in Hull and appreciation for local bands rise.

It's cold, it's wet and it's miserable. Now there are two things I could do on this gloomy Sunday afternoon in April.
Number one; I could stay at home in a lovely quiet village, pondering how I've become so overdrawn and kick myself when I figure out the reason.
Or, number two; I could spend three pounds and be entertained by some insane, vicious music.
Although spending any money may pose as a problem at this moment in time, the latter does sound more palatable.
Looking around the Adelphi, it appears to be quite empty; however Metallica's cover of So What and
Rage Against the Machine's Bombtrack playing through the PA is enough to keep the handful of people here entertained whilst they wait for the live show to begin.
When the music through the PA is turned off, focus is placed upon the small stage.
Four young men have made their way from the dingy backroom of the Adelphi and now stand hauntingly in front of today's audience.
With faces painted and a masked drummer, the audience welcomes Planet 10 with enthusiasm.
Now most people shy away when they see any face paint on a band, due to a fact there might be the horrific possibility of style over substance, however with Planet 10 this is not the case.
Their music doesn't take a back seat compared to their image; in fact it's the opposite.
With powerful riffs and solos that bare resemblance to Megadeth and a whole host of Swedish death metal groups, this four-piece put on a great show and you can't help but wonder how the stick thin lead singer bellows louder than most premiership football crowds.
What's even more impressive is the fact he can keep the screams going over and over, effortlessly!
The only glitch with Planet 10 is that their performance begins to sound like a slight variation of one song, with the clock ticking the bands set is cut short and the band makes way for today's second act.
When hearing the way Multiple Injuries lead singer banters with the audience and amongst the group you feel that they may only deliver a half hearted performance here today.
How much further from the truth this actually is. By blasting straight into their set the group leaves musically nothing to the imagination.
They can do it all! Hardcore screams but at the same time melodic, thrash metal at impressive speeds and dirty chugging guitars that make the audience quiver in their seats.
When looking around at the dropped jaws in the audience, I'm sure plenty of people will agree with me when I say keep your eye on Multiple Injuries as they may be the next Numb or DUMPVAVLE to come out of Hull.

Multiple Injuries at The Ringside, Hull - Wednesday 14th April 2004 By Dick Spring
This venue is a new addition to the Hull circuit, and I was informed that the booking is in the very capable hands of Determination Inc (who were the driving force behind, the late, lamented, Moriarty's ) and are bringing the magic touch to this venue, with a newly installed 2k PA system.
The new Wednesday night

Jesse James / Fraction of the Cost / The Trailers
The Adelphi, Thur 15th April 2004 By Mike Rofone.
Entering the Adelphi Club and hearing a band completing their sound check is never an unusual thing.
To be quite honest it's welcoming, like an appetiser it gets your taste buds going making you anxious to try the first course.
As usual, the Adelphi is always welcoming, its timeless décor and stale smells of spilt booze and stubbed out cigarettes

Jesse James / Fraction of the Cost / The Trailers
The Adelphi, Thur 15th April 2004 By Dick Spring
Smash it Up teamed up with the Adelphi to bring the self styled Punk Soul Brothers Jesse James back to the Adelphi.
Yet another busy night, as always when Jesse James swing into town. First up were three piece pop punk band THE TRAILERS from Bridlington, and contrary to reports about them being dreadfully bad, I can report

Featuring DumpValve, Mad Crowd Disease, Faith in Chaos and Ringworm
This promised to be an interesting night, as I had only seen 2 of the bands before and had never visited the Bivouac before.
We arrived early and witnessed a very rare thing - a proper sound check.
The guy who runs the place, Steve Hawkins had

Champion Sound at the Welly - Friday 9th April 04 By Ed Hunter
A THOUSAND rude boys gyrated to the pulsating Jamaican rhythms and the batty shaking was in full effek..
..Well, no they didn't actually. And no it wasn't. Champion Sound at Welly Club on Friday night was quiet.
The dance floor seemed a bit dead which is a shame for a weekend.
Dancehall has a great groove

The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night.
Any band who commit themselves to influences such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Pixies, REM and Velvet Underground may appear to have bitten off more than the average mouthful.
However, from the intro that provided the

Live Music Reviews - Blue Sand at The Sesh - Linnet & Lark - 1st April 04
By Rich Porter

The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night.
Having never been to one of these nights I wasn't sure what to expect, probably just another live band night? Far from it, as the first thing to greet you as you walk through the door is the resident DJ who blasts out great music and nearly all of it

Flatline, Die-For,The 30 Second Dead, Twice A Riot, The White Room, 28th March By Dick Spring
Unfortunately The Defected were on stupidly early and I missed them but I did arrive in time to catch Twice a Riot, featuring Harry's great new hair!
I have to say that this band do this screamo metal/ hardcore crossover pretty well and is certainly a giant leap forward from singer (screamer) Harry and bassist Arthur's previous musical outings.
