Nigefest 2004 at the Ringside 4th Aug 2004 continued
Headup, Flatline, Defenestration
By special guest Reviewer Lee Atkinson - from www.Hullscene.com.

|
|
As part of their extensive tour of our great Island, the closing act of the evening
was Nigefest favourites Defenestration.
Gen Tasker, Defenestration front woman
extraordinaire engaged the audience by politely requesting that the audience move closer
to the action and when the request wasn't fulfilled, she reacted politely with the
statement Well I just have to come to you then.
|
|
And come to the audience she did! With a mountainous backdrop of riffing, double riffing,
pumping machine-like bass and a drum thunderstorm, Tasker roamed the Ringside as if
it were as comfortable an environment as her own home.
|
The voice was there too, at time's riotous, venomous, enormous and at other's soft,
considerate, empathetic, all congealing to convey a mixture of emotional and prophetic song writing.
It was perhaps unfortunate that the audience on the night didn't quite enter into the
spirit of Nigefest as much as hoped and it was left to the big man himself to remind us all
that music is about expression and the willing to lose and free yourself.
Nige took to the dance floor in a frenzy of air guitar and head banging, punching the air
as he screamed lyrics into Tasker's wireless microphone, here was a man who was truly enjoying himself.
|
|
|
Defenestration came to the end of their set and Nigefest 2004 had delivered a great
evening of entertainment.
The Ringside is building steadily in both reputation and popularity and I would recommend
that you give the place a visit.
Happy Birthday Nigel!

Band Interviews - Sweet n Sour at the Welly Club 22/07/2004 Mad Action Interview By Andy Dykes
|
|
After the show I go backstage. Admittedly it's partly to use the toilet, but also to catch up
with the bands, particularly Mad Action, with whom an interview has been arranged.
The lead singer and guitarist/backing-vocalist from Kasabian are immediately welcoming,
allowing me to use their toilet without fear of violence or harassment.

Jesse Malin - York Fibbers 10/07/04 By Nick Quantrill
|
|
I have to admit it, I'm biased. Jesse Malin rules and I won't have a
word said against him.
Like most people I discovered Jesse's music through his association with
Ryan Adams.
After numerous years plodding along with quite frankly,
bad to mediocre punk bands, best mate Ryan produced and provided

Blind Frog Ernie at The Cavern - Saturday 3rd July By Andy Steele
|
|
Blind Frog Ernie, in their current guise, were supposed to make their Cavern
debut some months ago but had to cancel at the last minute due to illness.
Tonight it was clear from the off that they were determined to banish the memory of that
missed opportunity and give the place a proper rocking, East-coast style.

Music Reviews - Dead or American - Band Bio
|
|
In accordance with the prophecy, Dead or American came into being at the stroke
of midnight on the 31st December, 1999 - the result of numerous failed musical ventures.
Following the departure of founder-member Greg Heuer in 2003 after he realised there was
more to life than this rock n roll pish.
Various bassist were drafted in

The Mingers, Bosseye, The 30 Second Dead, Diverse Unit @ Adelphi Tue 13th July 2004 By Dick Spring
|
|
Bloody hell! It's about time! A proper punk band that had me rolling back the years.
I am, of course talking about Diverse Unit, a bunch of snot nosed punks all around the
age of 15 or so, with a passion and something to say.
The songs were there as well, and for a first gig it showed a talent and tightness of a
band

Payola and Malibu Stacey at The Springhead Sunday 11th July By Dick Spring |
|
ROCK'N'ROLL!!!!!!!!! Bring it on.
This is what gigs are about; the like of which we haven't seen for many a long
year and in a proper little rock 'n' roll venue.
The Springhead, not known for being a hotbed of originality, despite being
an excellent place to see live music, has stuck it's neck out and booked a fast
rising UK rock band

Le Shed at The Ringside - Wednesday 30th June By Dick Spring |
|
It's been a while since we've had a band in Hull to fill the void left by DumpValve,
since they took a heavier more thrashy direction.
Well, now such a band exists in the Form of Le Shed, who many will have seen gigging
like mad round Hull in recent months, building up a healthy profile.
And now it was the turn of The Ringside to host them
