4Ft Fingers / Tiny Elvis / Flatline / Diplacements
The Adelphi, Wednesday 21st April 2004
By Dick Spring
Having seen countless posters around, and, with a very eager, expectant, and sizeable queue, for this Smash it Up show
featuring one of the big hitters of the current UK punk scene 4 Ft Fingers.
Opening act Displacements, made an excellent job of getting proceedings into gear.
They appeared to have a large fan base there to support them with plenty of vocal support.
This was the 3-piece's first major support slot, and also the first time of playing the Smash it Up night.
The obvious comparison would have to be a developing Blink 182, and, though they turned in a lively and tidy performance, I would say there is still some work to do to be the finished article, but they are in their infancy, so watch out for them over the next 6-12 months, and I think we could have another potent force.
Flatline (tonight's second band), however are somewhat closer to being the aforementioned finished article.
They are without doubt, flag bearers for the Hull punk scene. They have that x-factor, that suggests a bright future.
There are so many coats you could hang on this band without any of
them being a tight fit.
They have the melodies of their heroes Blink 182, the anger and politics of Anti Flag or Propagandhi, and even sufficient an element of Screamo and shoutyness to please the fashion brigade, who it would appear, were strangely absent tonight, not that it mattered,
as the by now thronging audience was well warmed up for the arrival of Tiny Elvis, back again after their recent support slot with Uncle Brian, who really are
a sight to behold.
They Have energy, attitude, ability and songs for any crowd to jump around and throw fists in the air to.
They seem to the UK's premier rent a support band, though on tonight's evidence, really ought to be playing their own headline shows, as they were thoroughly impressive tonight.
And so, we come to the main meal of the evening, 4Ft Fingers, returning to Hull, on a UK tour in support of their new album a cause for Concern.
There was eager anticipation, after they sold the venue out in March 2003, and they didn't disappoint either, with a set of top drawer skate punk rock, that although isn't strictly in vogue right now, still proved immensely popular with
the eager ones down at the front interacting with the band, and I saw heads nodding and bodies rocking all the way to the back.
The penultimate song of the evening was the instantly recognisable and sing-along tune last man standing which, had the crowd in sing-along mode for the song that had a video on heavy rotation on P-rocktv and Scuzz TV, and is a sure fire crowd pleaser.
All in all another cracking night for Smash it Up, which has to be one of the city's best quality nights for live bands.

Electric Eel Shock & Antiproduct at The Kazbah, Scarborough 25th March 04 By Steve Rudd
Antiproduct is the coolest and most exhilarating punk band since The Sex Pistols.
Stopping at nothing to put on the most entertaining show possible at every gig they play, this wacky quintet might be based in London, but they make it known loud-and-clear that they prefer

Music Reviews - Adelphi, Hull, 18th April
Jaws drop in Hull and appreciation for local bands rise.

Crowbar Smile, DUMPVALVE, Mad Crowd Disease, Multiple Injuries, Planet 10
It's cold, it's wet and it's miserable. Now there are two things I could do on this gloomy Sunday afternoon in April.
Number one; I could stay at home in a lovely quiet village, pondering how I've become so overdrawn and kick myself when I figure out the reason.
Or,

Multiple Injuries at The Ringside, Hull - Wednesday 14th April 2004 By Dick Spring
This venue is a new addition to the Hull circuit, and I was informed that the booking is in the very capable hands of Determination Inc (who were the driving force behind, the late, lamented, Moriarty's ) and are bringing the magic touch to this venue, with a newly installed 2k PA system.
The new Wednesday night

Jesse James / Fraction of the Cost / The Trailers
The Adelphi, Thur 15th April 2004 By Mike Rofone.
Entering the Adelphi Club and hearing a band completing their sound check is never an unusual thing.
To be quite honest it's welcoming, like an appetiser it gets your taste buds going making you anxious to try the first course.
As usual, the Adelphi is always welcoming, its timeless décor and stale smells of spilt booze and stubbed out cigarettes

Jesse James / Fraction of the Cost / The Trailers
The Adelphi, Thur 15th April 2004 By Dick Spring
Smash it Up teamed up with the Adelphi to bring the self styled Punk Soul Brothers Jesse James back to the Adelphi.
Yet another busy night, as always when Jesse James swing into town. First up were three piece pop punk band THE TRAILERS from Bridlington, and contrary to reports about them being dreadfully bad, I can report

Featuring DumpValve, Mad Crowd Disease, Faith in Chaos and Ringworm
This promised to be an interesting night, as I had only seen 2 of the bands before and had never visited the Bivouac before.
We arrived early and witnessed a very rare thing - a proper sound check.
The guy who runs the place, Steve Hawkins had

Champion Sound at the Welly - Friday 9th April 04 By Ed Hunter
A THOUSAND rude boys gyrated to the pulsating Jamaican rhythms and the batty shaking was in full effek..
..Well, no they didn't actually. And no it wasn't. Champion Sound at Welly Club on Friday night was quiet.
The dance floor seemed a bit dead which is a shame for a weekend.
Dancehall has a great groove

The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night.
Any band who commit themselves to influences such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Pixies, REM and Velvet Underground may appear to have bitten off more than the average mouthful.
However, from the intro that provided the

The Sesh is held at The Linnet & Lark, down Princes Ave every Thursday night.
Having never been to one of these nights I wasn't sure what to expect, probably just another live band night? Far from it, as the first thing to greet you as you walk through the door is the resident DJ who blasts out great music and nearly all of it
