For Those Of You About to Goz, We Salute You! Punk Day at The White Room Sunday 23rd May Continued
By Daniel Laney
Continued from

|
But if you are a fan of plain Rock 'n' Roll then Break Even are very good at producing just that.
|
Something different then made its way to the small stage this evening.
The City Ghosts today were providing us with a taster of what's in store for us in the future.
They maybe a little rusty, but for the style of music they were producing this afternoon
you have to appreciate the difficulties there are when reaching certain notes and
successfully hitting certain chords.
|
|
|
However, their performance would make up for any blips and glitches, definitely
different in many respects but at the same time keeping it within the emo category,
The City Ghosts are definitely going to do well.
This early evening would see the brother and sister combo play a touching set of covers and originals
that would leave not one dry eye in the house.
|
It had certainly been a long hot day in The White Room today and it was an educating experience
to see what the punks from the past are now listening too.
I can remember when everyone had at least one piercing and weren't afraid to grab
the lead singers neck and sing with them until they felt like they had blended into the same person.
|
Things have changed; the audience now respects the artist on the stage and although the
enthusiasm to dance is still there, there seems to be a separate divide between audience and band.
All of this was very true until Flatline came to take us back in time and showed us what
it used to be in a punk band from Hull.
|
|
|
With melodies that sound like a fresh and younger version of The Freaks Union and guitar
riffs that remind me of Avail and Pennywise you get that buzz you used to find when watching
bands like this play.
And let us not forget the drums, powerful, riveting and moving so much to the extent that,
every time the bass drum is hit your heart feels like it's been punched through an open flesh wound.
|
|
The audience to seem to remember the good old days of punk, and the small crowd dancing here
today sing a long word for word, this is encouraged by the bands small but entertaining lead singer.
|
I felt the sound through the PA wasn't giving bands deserved justice here today but
Flatline didn't care just as long as they got the crowd going.
It was definitely a long hot day today, but the good punks from Hull and friends alike would
make it a day to remember.

Superscape, Limozis & Blue Sand - Adelphi 13th May 04 Will Somebody Write This Review For Me? By Cilla
|
|
It's a hard life. I'm not necessarily complaining and I'd like to explain.
And I'd like to use a particular night at the Adelphi as an example. It's a perfect one.
Thursday 13th May. Superscape, Blue Sand and The Limozis
were playing at my nearest local venue, the Adelphi.
The gig was

Flatline, The City Ghost's, Displacements, Green Ginger and Bundy at Springfield on the Common, Hull - Thursday 20th May 2004 By Dick Spring
|
|
Damn good job the team rolled up 15 mins early, as there was a late addition to the bill in the form of
Bundy, who were into their stride as we entered.
There were an impressive number of people at this unusual but very good venue. It had the look of
what the Adelphi ought to have, though it was sadly

Sense of Humour & Sensitivity: Emotion and laughter purchased a ticket at the Adelphi this evening and the crowd were happy to see them.
This evening's entertainment at the Adelphi was one hundred percent pure and positive evidence of why it is a fulfilling and rewarding experience to write about bands.

Music Reviews - Wednesday at the Spring Bank Tavern By Ed Paull

Open mic acoustic nights are conceptually strange, and yet they have a charm and magic all of their own, stemming from their participatory nature. All of these nights are essentially the same.
The organisers busily running about; the regulars sitting drinking and

Music Reviews - Friday 14th May at The White Room Dumpvalve + Blind Frog Ernie By Barney Gumble
|
|
Friday night at the White Room saw two of Hull's top bands playing together for the
first time in this unusual billing.
Blind Frog Ernie took the stage at 9 to a warm crowd and soon had everyone dancing.
This band always leaves you with the sense that they've enjoyed playing and tonight was no exception.
Catchy guitar riffs fused with

Music Reviews - After the Silence, The Bonnitts and The Cardinals Under the Influence Hull Adelphi 12th May By special guest Reviewer Lee - from

After hearing more good things about local music entrepreneur Dean Shakespeare, I headed down to the good old Adelphi to check out the latest instalment of his fortnightly showcase Under the Influence.
Upon arriving at the Adelphi around 8:30pm, I wandered into an already busy atmosphere, bustling with an air of expectation

Music Reviews - Jet Plane Landing, Harvey Half Devoured, Break Even, The Adelphi Sunday 9th May 04 By Charlotte Oakley.

The night kicked off with the support from the four piece rock band Break Even.
These guys did a 25 minute set which hit off with one of their newest songs, this is a catchy song and one of my favourites.
I was kept interested within their music due to their varied style of rock.
They have an interesting set of songs that are all very different from
