Another evening of superb entertainment brought to us by Under the Influence. Yes, another quality night.

First up, The Landaus. The four piece with the growing name - from here to Australia and back. I saw them last week at the Asylum and thought to myself that this band really does have something. This week, in the altogether different environment of The Adelphi, I was even more impressed. There's some remarkable stuff going on between them.
Their intro which almost made me think of an Irish jig, their quite unique use of vocal harmonies (which had me at times thinking of Lindisfarne - how unique is that!) and their sheer energy and enthusiasm for what they do on the stage all added up to total enjoyment.

This was the best I'd seen them - very focused and together.
Ok, Stephan the drummer did lose a couple of drum sticks - but I think that's a fairly regular thing (he lost one or two at Asylum!)
Thee Unstrung were up next. I noticed a Paddington or two at the front of the crowd, obviously fans or friends or both.

These guys are really relaxed and at home. They made me think of The Beatles Let It Be. I heard bass lines reminiscent of the Happy Mondays at times and even some Golden Earring thrown in.

This is a powerful band with more potential than meets the eye, I am sure. They've just released a single Contrary Mary which should push them onto another level. They're good, really good.
Park & Ride hit the stage to a rapturous welcome from the crowd. It was amazing. It seemed that everybody loved them. I'd not seen this band before. Badness and The Beatles and rock music with lyrics that seem to just make fun. I loved the sythesizer - it's amazing what you can do with those gizmos.
This is a great band. They make you want to dance (but I'm too shy). Nobody seems to take centre stage and it works well that way. I reckon they've all got big personalities - they certainly know how to keep an audience happy and shouting for more when they leave the stage.

Park&Ride have got a CD out at the moment which can be bought from their web site. I hope they get some stocked up. I want one.
Last and by no means least, The Ludes took to the stage. These guys are compelling. Handsome, too. From their fist number to the moment I had to leave (before they'd finished, so I don't know if they did an encore) they delivered fantastic music.

The lead singer (with the skinniest legs) just smiles and smiles and performs like he was born up there.
There's lots of reggae rhythms and a glance back to 70's Polly Styrene somewhere. They're hard to describe, like nothing else really. Unusual beats and in a way experimental. It's like watching evolution happen in front of you!

The Ludes are treasure of a band who love to perform. I hope they do it in Hull more often.
