Winnebago Deal, Killer of Saints and Brassik Lynt
At Full Metal Jacket, The Asylum, Hull Student Union -
30th April 04 By Chris Jarratt

Photograph Gallery   Winnebago Deal   Killer of Saints   Brassik Lynt   People
The night started off with considerable excitement, everyone at college had been buzzing for weeks, and the promo posters had been up at uni and college and handed out in town to mini-moshers et al.

The line up included two local bands; Killer of Saints and Brassik Lynt, and a signed band I'd not heard of before.

During the sound checks we could tell it was gonna be a monster of a gig.

As a venue Asylum is quality, high capacity with bloody good sound system and the room has good acoustics with a good crowd in.
They also have plenty of staff who know what they're doing (unlike HU11 304 at Welly).

The first band on sound checking were to be probably the most crowd-divisive of the night, the signed band Winebago Deal.

For me the two-some hit bloody hard for a guitarist and a drummer, but the set seemed to be very raw and unfocused with many songs sounding like noise over a drum track.

As I said before, they were divisive, and many people loved 'em. Must be that whole love/hate marmite thing.....
The first on stage were Brassik Lynt (www.brassik-lynt.co.uk) and they seriously rocked.

A great mix of powerful vocals with a Hetfield inspired growl plus Chilis style harmonies, and lovely guitar-bass interaction, mixed with seamless time changes to provide a brilliant 30(ish) minute set, even bringing in a cover of rage's Killing in the name of to get the small but lively crowd dancing away.

These guys were so good they convinced me to buy their short but professional sounding 3 track E.P. Which 'aint bad, considering I'm so tight!

The crowd starting fill up towards the half nine mark when the local lads of Killer of Saints (KOS) stepped up to their amps and mics and were soon moshing to fine guitar harmonies and infectious riffs such as they're encore track Venom Reserved.
All those prospective Incubus and Deftones fans go to www.killerofsaints.com and get down to their next gig.

The only detraction from KOS was the incosistency of the vocal channels which were, on occasion, drowned out by the bass and distortion of the twin guitar setup, but I think the cover of Head Up (ft. Brassik Lynt voclaist) more than made up for this judging by the sweaty bodies in the mosh pit!
Then after a few drinks and AC/DC tracks later, Winnebago Deal www.winnebagodeal.com took to the stage, at which point the mosh pit's energy dissipated somewhat, and most people retreated to the bar or watched from a distance.

All in all a bloody good night, I think I'll be going to Full Metal Jacket more often.

Music Reviews-Under the Influence at the Adelphi - 24th April 04 Blue Sand, ..divided by time and The Vultures By Michelle Dee
Saturday night at the Adelphi and the crowd was buzzing. The Vultures kicked the night off in style. Their first song was for the Johnno's. I don't know which Johnno's they were referring to but it didn't matter. With a catchy Led Zep sounding riff they launched into their 20 song set. Read more...

Music Reviews - Million Dead, The Freaks Union and Silence In The Streets At the Welly - 27th April 04 By Dom (plus Gallery)
Tonight's show was put on and promoted by the WellyClub. They really surpassed themselves promoting this show, I can't remember ever being at a show as full as this in Hull. There were well over 300 people attending and due to the size of the venue it was the perfect amount. I haven't been into the big room since it's been Read more...

Music Reviews - Mad Crowd Disease is a punk band. By Brian
The bottom line; Mad Crowd Disease is a punk band. They don't claim to be anything else. Don't want to be anything else. Off stage, Cal, Danny and Gaz are pleasant enough young men, on stage however, they seem to transform, Hyde-like, into aggressive noise merchants, peddling their own brand of punk. Read more...

Music Reviews- The Levellers, The Mutts & 59 Violets at Hull City Hall - 29th March 04 By Steve Rudd
The Levellers have to be applauded for consistently inviting some brilliant bands to support them on tour. Back in December 2003, Brighton rockabilly outfit She Said did the honours brilliantly, and this time around - for their 14-date, Anti-Apathy UK Spring 2004 tour Read more...

Music Reviews-York 21st April 04 Million Dead, X is Loaded, yourcodenameis:milo at Fibbers By Steve Rudd
As the April rains raged outside, so did Newcastle quintet yourcodenameis:milo on the inside. Strange name, you might think.. and they're an even stranger band, proudly presenting the sound of sheer carnage as three guitarists manhandle all manner of destructive and Read more...

Music Reviews - Brave, Blind Frog Ernie, Silence In The Streets, Dumpvalve The Welly - Tue 20th April KERRANG Show! By Felix Green
Downstairs in the main ballroom of the Welly Club is always a difficult room to fill, since it is far larger in comparison to the other rock venues in Hull. Yet with four weeks of Kerrang promotion and some wide spread flyering it was as full as I've ever seen it. Also, praises to the sound guys who Read more...

Music Reviews - The Displacements By Steve
Displacements are a remarkable new band based in Hull. Chris (Gowie), Simon (Burner) and Nick are only just turned 18 yet their unique brand of music is rapidly attracting a loyal following. Remarkable because guitarists and vocalists Simon and Nick are self taught through spending hours in front of a PC logged on to the web whilst Gowie has been playing Read more...

Music Reviews - 4Ft Fingers / Tiny Elvis / Flatline / Displacements The Adelphi, Wed 21st April By Dick Spring
Having seen countless posters around, and, with a very eager, expectant, and sizeable queue, for this Smash it Up show featuring one of the big hitters of the current UK punk scene 4 Ft Fingers. Opening act Displacements, made an excellent job of getting proceedings into gear. They appeared to have a large fan base there to support them with Read more...

Music Reviews- Electric Eel Shock & Antiproduct at The Kazbah, Scarborough 25th March 04 By Steve Rudd
Antiproduct is the coolest and most exhilarating punk band since The Sex Pistols. Stopping at nothing to put on the most entertaining show possible at every gig they play, this wacky quintet might be based in London, but they make it known loud-and-clear that they prefer Read more...
