The cult of Biffy Clyro swirl, pulse and swell like a spring tide while their heroes rock mercilessly infront of them. On record, Biffy Clyro are a band whose songs range from the heart wrenchingly emotional to the jaw droppingly powerful. But I'm totally unprepared for the sheer intensity of the Biffy Clyro live experience. The band slip out of one song and burst into the next, with barely a word passed between them and their fans.

It's this brooding melancholy, coupled with their visceral stage presence that creates an electric atmosphere in tonight's venue.

Crescendos roll into one another, crashing into climax after climax, whipping the cult into a frenzy. Biffy Clyro's dynamic sensibilities and way with a melody may make for exciting listening but this is a band who have an understanding of the way music can work a crowd. New single My Recovery Injection goes down a storm, its jerky groove bouncing off the walls.

Other offerings suggest that the direction of forthcoming album 'Infinity Land' will be entirely more angular and intricate than that of their previous albums.

Tonight though, fan favourites Questions and Answers and Joy.Discovery.Invention hit the crowd like the roof caving in, but set highlight is Justboy. With its build-ups and break-downs, it drags the cult from pillar to post until its total release of a chorus which sees the cult singing so loud that Simon Neil doesn't need to bother. The dust settles after a raucous encore, and the band have gone. The cult disperses. Breathtaking.
