Music CD Live Band Clubs Reviews |
It had been a long day covering Grass Roots Sunday festival in Pearson Park, and after a short kip I was to skip down to the Adelphi Nightclub where I had a couple of beers and took some photos and details of the acts and performers for www.thisisUll.com
First up, for me anyway was CrackTown 'Music to watch dogfights by' says The Silver Fox, on harp/vocals, his hair definately took me back to Marc Bolan (for those who can remember that far back).
Teamed up with The Silver Fox on guitar/vocals the two have been woking together for 10 months now, having met in the George Hotel in the Land of Green Ginger. humm. Anyway there's an open musicians night there every Thursday, where the two first began writing songs and performing together.

They are playing on the 17th Sept in the Lamp in Norfolk Street off the Beverley road, with the 'Cow Fish' as a supporting act.
p.s. Thanks for the pen, Silver Fox, without which there would be no report.
You can contact these chaps on Hull 448 067 for bookings.
Next up was Phil Wilson from Beverley who's at uni in Carlisle at the Cumbria Institute doing Fine Arts. He's a self taught guitar player who began by strumming away to "Wonderwall" by Oasis.
What does he work on at college? Humm. In the phonic art field, using sound coupled with installation art, meaning sculpture using 3d space.

And what's that mean I thought, whilst tapping along to Emma Rugg playing behind me.
'Well an example' Phil continues, 'is say taping conversations with many people in a room and creating rhythms from them. Cool eh?
Great performance Phil.
Ok, this piece on Emma Rugg is a little embarassing, in that I had seen Emma both perform at the
Middleton Street Party and earlier in the afternoon at
Grassroots Festival.
Still, I'd had a long day, and was well into my second pint chatting to Phil (above), and as I said I was really getting into the music, without realising who it was at all.

My excuse is her transformation into braids, still I walked up to her like a pratt and said the usual 'I'm from www.thisisUll.com etc..
Lucky Emma has a sense of humour.
And we have an interview lined up with Emma next week too!
Natasha or Bod as she is known plays often at the Adelphi and is a member of the Harvey Half Devoured band together one and a half years.
Harvey half devoured play next on Friday 29th August with Caybo and 20th september at the Hanworth Arms.
Bod is in her last year of a PHd in Medieval History at Hull University but still finds time to play base with 'Fonda 500' and the 'Edible 5ft Smiths'.

Interviews - Robert Needham Sculptor
That's when I met Robert Needham. My first impression was that maybe he was a member of the clergy, presenting me with a warm smile and outstretched hand,
smartly dressed, little thin maybe, definitely an interesting looking character.

News - Home and Gardens?....No...This IS Hull.
After a long time out of Hull I bumped into a friend who has lived in Edinburgh Street
for twenty years. "Tell me about Little Beirut," I said. "What's it like living at the
epicentre of west hull's Council-sponsored landgrab?"
