Under 18's Wide Awake at POZITION Night Club

By Annie, Kids site Editor.
On Wednesday, 6th August 2003, I went with my friend Claire to the 'Awakening' night at Pozition in the centre of Hull. 'Awakening' is the name of the night when under 18's only are allowed. I was allowed to go in early to take some photos and have a look around.
Pozition is in a large building with two dance-floors, one used as an R'n'B room where artists' music ranges from R Kelly to Sean Paul to Christina Aguilera and the other used as a Dance dance-floor, where artists' music ranging from DJ Sammy, Mis-Teeq and other mixes are played for your entertainment.

The dancefloor
Most of the people dance and have a great time chatting. You pay £5.50 to enter unless you have a flyer from the last time you went in which case you would get in for £1 less. Members get in for £3.50 and people on the guest list get in free of charge, and when you come to think of it, a whole £5.50 is totally worth it to hear all the new songs and up to three and a half hours of boogying (the Awakening nights start at 6:30pm and finish at 10:00pm)!
With a few bars and a café on the top floor where you can order food, drink etc., Pozition is the place to be. Prices for food start at around £1.00 which I can assure you is REALLY nice and not over-cooked, and fizzy drinks are £1.00 to purchase as well. I am not sure about the bottles of Abbey Well water that the bars serve, but they cant be any more expensive than the Pepsi, Lemonade, Coca-Cola etc.(alcohol is not served as it is an under-18's night).
The Main Bar

The facilities are great. There is a cloakroom where you can keep your coat and even your bag. It is safe to use and there are friendly staff to make sure you are okay and to make sure your belongings are safe.

Even the toilets are great, too. Upstairs, in the women's toilets, there is even a furry couch to rest your very sore feet (especially if you have been wearing uncomfortable heels…).
Also, the dance floors have great lights. Strobe lights, spotlights, coloured spotlights and dry ice (the stuff that helps make the atmosphere smoky). All these things help add to the dramatic, exciting atmosphere.

Under 18's Wide Awake at POZITION Night Club continued

By Annie, Kids site Editor.
All sorts of people attend these great under-eighteen Awakening nights. Shy people, boisterous people, very confident people and people that sit and chat to their mates while listening to the up-to-date, newly-released singles that the club provides for your entertainment all seem to enjoy it.
Outside, the lads queue up on one side of the club entrance and the girls on the other. This is to help stop any unruly behaviour and keep it (at least) until they get inside. All people are searched before entering and chewing gum is forbidden. You could get chucked out straight away for even having a pack of chewy in your pocket or bag, mainly because of it getting stuck on sofas and other things

The reasons I go, are that there are always nice people to meet, the staff are always friendly and helpful and it is a great place to just hang with your mates if you don't get to see them during the week - sometimes the only time to see them is during the evening when you can have a girly (or boyey!) night out and get dolled up…. You get a chance to catch up on all the goss.

The best bit, is sometimes, celebrities make an appearance and sing a few singles for you. With the routines and everything (once I went and 3SL were there! A lot of the girls were screaming, I can tell you)!
I go to have a laugh and to have a dance with some of my best friends. It is a great way to catch up with each other, and if the partying scene is not for you, you can always go to the top floor where it is much quieter and you can sit down on the leather couches and have a cold refreshment or warm food.
You could even go to the roof area where is it open, fresh air if you are really hot (that is something that I get a lot!). I think that anybody would enjoy this club as a treat and even if you think it isn't what you are looking for as a break from studying, you could be highly wrong and you should try it sometime!
I had a great night and I want to say a big thank-you to Sarah, the lady who works for Pozition in Promotions and helped me organise to take my own, original pictures and speak to some people, who's photos are here. Sorry we didn't get your names. Thanks again, Sarah

Salter and Emma Lancaster arrive at Awakening

Fashion - Love From Holly by Cilla
Some of Hulls local young talent showed what they were made of last Monday (4th August) in a bright and vibrant summertime bonanza at the Welly club, Beverley Road.
The late-night fashion show was organised by young designer Holly Cryan, who also featured an original collection made under her own label, 'love from holly'. Also supporting the event were designer Emma Lou and with 2 of his current collections in the show, Phil from Rockerfellas Boutique in the Hepworth Arcade in Hull. Read more...

Interviews Will Self
Tuesday 17th of June saw the excellent arrival into Hull of the delightful satirical journalist and dryer than arrid anti-perspirant Will Self. The man himself graced around 250 eager punters at the Pave cafe bar on Princes Avenue at 6.45 p.m.. And guess who was lucky enough to have a prime seat by the stage window with the Kronenbourg flowing effortlessly and the company in keep, divine?!.

Places to Visit - A day by the beach - Bridlington Harbour.
This Sunday I was spoilt for choice - either to visit a Buddhist centre in "Kilham" or attend a strawberries and cream party. Opted to go and find Zen so duly arrived with my offspring (Katie and Oliver) at my friend's house (Cilla) punctually (for a change) at 11.30. Read more...

Sports Events - KC Skate Park July 2003
My guess was right, and the glorious evening sunshine brought the skatepark kids out in force. Word had obviously got around about the site as I felt like the Pied Piper - everywhere I turned I was met with tricks, questions and overwhelming enthusiasm.
