Hull Stingrays vs Newcastle Vipers
30th January 05

Newcastle Vipers were the visitors this weekend to the Hull Arena.
It was bound to be a gruelling match, with both teams securing 2nd place in the
table - and it lived up to expectations.
Jeff Glowa, who has stepped up his game big time since the departure of Scott Wray, bagged the first goal.
When his first shot was saved he hit the rebound through Teskey's legs from close range.
|
|
|
Andrei Nikolaev doubled Hull's lead five minutes later.
With Shaun Johnson sitting out 2 minutes for high sticks, Nikolaev tipsied in a Chernenko shot.
|
|
Rob Trumbley pulled one back for The Vipers just before the end of the period.
The second period had just started when The Vipers captain, Jonathan Weaver equalized.
He showed lightning fast stick handling to beat Kudnra 1-1.
As the period was drawing to a close Nikolaev broke away and got his second of the night,
putting the puck away off the bar.
|
The game had been a rough affair so far but was to get much worse in the third period.
Hull's discipline was second to none. Wilson, Tasker and Trumbley had been cheap-shotting
all night but the Stingrays refused to react.
When Jeff Glowa got his second of the night - a blistering shot into the roof of the net -
Trumbley cross-checked him from behind.
|
|
|
This earned him a trip to the penalty box where he squirted water over Paul Staniforth who threw
him out for travesty of the game.
|
|
Rob Wilson pulled The Vipers to within a goal-scoring shorthanded with two and a half minutes
left to play but he then got himself ejected from the game for his second 10 minute penalty
after he cross-checked Gomenyuk while he was still on the ground after a check from Longstaff.
Rublivsky made sure of the win, scoring an empty net goal with 2 seconds left.

What pains me is the lack of coverage of the sport I and many others enjoy in this region.
Ten Pin Bowling, I know, is not all glitz and glamour but Yorkshire is rated top squad in the country.
In Paul Moor (yes,
